About this product

Please note: this is a non-returnable item (excluding faulty goods)

Belden 1855ENH.10100 is a 100 metre reel of green 1855ENH cable: 75 ohm mini RG-59 SDI coax with a 22 AWG solid bare copper conductor, a foil-plus-braid screen and an LSZH jacket.

This is bulk cable on a reel, not a made-up lead, so there are no connectors on it and you cut and terminate to length on site. The 1855ENH is Belden's low smoke zero halogen version of its miniature serial digital video coax. The core is the same as the rest of the 1855 family: 75 ohm, 22 AWG solid bare copper in a foam polyethylene dielectric.

The jacket is LSZH, classified Dca-s1,d1,a1 under the Construction Products Regulation for both the EU and the UK. At 4.45 mm outside diameter it is appreciably thinner than a standard RG-59. That is the whole point of the mini format: it bends into tighter runs, fills less containment and dresses more neatly into a rack.

Belden's own variants table lists this exact part number, 1855ENH.10100, as the green 100 metre reel, EAN 8719605004383.

Key points

  • 100 m green reel: Belden's published variants table lists 1855ENH.10100 as the green, 100 metre reel put-up of 1855ENH, EAN 8719605004383.
  • 75 ohm SDI coax: Nominal characteristic impedance 75 ohm, velocity of propagation 84%, and nominal conductor-to-shield capacitance of 53 pF/m (16 pF/ft).
  • Mini RG-59 format: The finished jacket is 4.45 mm (0.175 in) nominal diameter, so it pulls into tighter containment and dresses more easily than a full-size RG-59.
  • 22 AWG solid bare copper: One 0.65 mm solid bare copper conductor in foam polyethylene insulation at 2.9 mm nominal diameter, with a maximum conductor resistance of 55 ohm/km.
  • Double screened: A 100% tri-laminate aluminium/polyester/aluminium tape under a 90% tinned copper braid, giving screening class B and at least 85 dB screening attenuation from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz.
  • LSZH jacket: Low smoke zero halogen and flame retardant to IEC 60332-1-2 and CEI 20-35/1. Halogen free to IEC 62821-1, with zero halogen content to IEC 60754-1. Minimum smoke transmittance is 60% to IEC 61034-2.
  • CPR Euroclass Dca-s1,d1,a1: Classified Dca-s1,d1,a1 under both the EU CPR and the UKCA scheme, and CE and UKCA marked.
  • Characterised to 4.5 GHz: Belden publishes nominal attenuation from 1 MHz to 4500 MHz. Return loss is at least 23 dB from 5 MHz to 1600 MHz, and 21 dB from 1600 MHz to 4500 MHz.
  • Rated to 6 Gb/s: Belden lists digital video, 6 Gb/s UHDTV and HD-SDI 1080p among the suitable applications for this cable.
  • Handling limits: Operating range -30 °C to +70 °C, installation -5 °C to +50 °C, 45 mm minimum stationary bend radius and a maximum pull tension of 160 N (36 lbf).

Where this is used

Serial digital video is the obvious home for this cable. It suits studio and outside-broadcast tie lines, production galleries, edit suites and control rooms. It also suits any rack where a lot of SDI has to be dressed into a small space.

The 100 metre reel is the size you buy for a patch field, a rack build or a single room, rather than a building-wide first fix. It is sold as bulk cable, so you cut each run to length and crimp or compress your own 75 ohm BNCs. The LSZH jacket and the Dca-s1,d1,a1 CPR classification are the reason to choose this version over a standard PVC 1855.

In UK escape routes, risers, plant rooms and public buildings, the specification usually calls for a low smoke zero halogen cable with a declared Euroclass. A PVC equivalent will not satisfy it. One caveat before you order.

Belden lists this cable as suitable for indoor and outdoor use. But its sunlight-resistance listing under UL 1581 section 1200 applies to the black jacket only. For a run in permanent direct sunlight, specify the black put-up rather than this green one.

Belden 1855ENH.10100 Mini RG-59 75 Ohm SDI Coaxial Cable, LSZH, 100m Green

Who this is for

For the installer: this is 100 metres of 1855ENH on a reel, in green, and it is bulk cable so nothing is terminated. Treat it as a mini RG-59.

It is 4.45 mm over the jacket, with a 22 AWG solid bare copper centre in foam PE at 2.9 mm. The screen is a 100 per cent tri-laminate foil under a 90 per cent tinned copper braid. Nominal impedance is 75 ohm, with an 84 per cent velocity of propagation.

Use compression or crimp BNCs sized for mini 59 rather than for full RG-59 or you will not get a reliable return loss. Belden gives a 45 mm minimum stationary bend radius and a 160 N maximum pull tension. Install it between -5 °C and +50 °C, even though it runs from -30 °C to +70 °C once in place.

In plain English: this is a reel of thin, green, screened video cable for digital broadcast signals, with a jacket that gives off little smoke and no halogen if it ever catches fire. That jacket is the reason most people buy this version instead of the cheaper PVC one, because building specifications in the UK increasingly demand it. You cut it to length and put your own connectors on the ends.

Buying this in the UK

  • Fire performance: the cable is classified Dca-s1,d1,a1 under the Construction Products Regulation, and Belden declares the same class under the UKCA scheme. If your specification names a Euroclass, this is the figure to quote.
  • Sunlight: Belden lists the cable as suitable for indoor and outdoor use, but the UL 1581 section 1200 sunlight-resistance listing is qualified 'Black Only'. For a permanently sun-exposed run, specify the black put-up rather than this green one.
  • Put-up: this part number is the 100 metre reel. Belden also publishes 500 m, 1,000 m and 2,000 m reels of the green cable under different part numbers, so order by part number rather than by colour alone.
  • Colour: Belden's own variants table records 1855ENH.10100 as green. Belden makes 1855ENH in black, blue, cream, green, orange, violet, white and yellow, and each colour and length combination has its own part number.
  • Termination: this is sold as bare cable on a reel with no connectors. Budget for 75 ohm BNCs suited to a mini RG-59 body size, and for the tool to match them.

Questions we get asked

  • Is this the same cable as 1855A? No. 1855A is the PVC-jacketed version of the same mini RG-59 design. 1855ENH is the low smoke zero halogen version, which is what a Dca-s1,d1,a1 specification needs.
  • Will it carry 12G-SDI? Belden lists digital video, 6 Gb/s UHDTV and HD-SDI 1080p as the suitable applications, and publishes attenuation figures out to 4500 MHz. We do not claim a 12G rating because Belden does not state one for this cable.
  • How thick is it really? 4.45 mm nominal over the jacket, against roughly 6 mm for a conventional RG-59, which is what makes it so much easier to dress into a rack.
  • Does it come with connectors? No. It is bulk cable on a 100 metre reel and you terminate it yourself.
  • How far will it run? That depends on the data rate and your equipment's tolerance. Work from Belden's published attenuation figures rather than a single headline distance. They are 16.1 dB per 100 m at 270 MHz and 31.3 dB per 100 m at 1000 MHz.
