About this product

The CDVI RTE-PTO is a large all-active exit button for access-controlled doors, marked PUSH TO OPEN. The whole face works the switch, so it suits people who struggle with a small button. It is brushed stainless steel in a surface mount format, with a changeover contact for the door circuit.

Key features

  • Easy to press – the complete surface area of the face activates the switch
  • Clear to users – PUSH TO OPEN on the plate
  • Helps with limited reach or grip – for those who have difficulty targetting a smaller button
  • Made for heavy use – brushed stainless steel faceplate, for high traffic areas
  • Wires into most door circuits – normally open & normally closed changeover contact
  • Fits UK electrical boxes – UK back-box format

For installers

  • Mounting: surface mount format, UK back-box format. 130 mm x 130 mm.
  • Cabling: heavy-duty micro switch with common, normally open and normally closed changeover contact. Check the contact rating with CDVI before switching a load directly.
  • Compatibility: a plain switch contact. Check your door controller's input against it.
  • Standards: CE and DEEE certification marks. Suitable for DDA environments.

Frequently asked questions

What does all-active mean?

Is it surface or flush mounted?

Does it suit disabled access?

Yes, it is suitable for DDA environments and well suited to those who have difficulty targetting a smaller button. The button alone does not make an entrance compliant, so check the whole door design.

Does it fit a UK back box?

Yes. These switches fit on a standard UK back box.

CDVI Large All-Active Exit Button, PUSH TO OPEN, Surface Mount, Stainless Steel RTE-PTO

What this exit button is for

An exit button lets someone inside leave through a locked door by sending a release signal. This CDVI push plate does that job with a target far larger than a normal button.

It suits entrances where people may have limited hand movement or use a wheelchair, and sites with a steady stream of users.

How it works

  • Micro switch: pressing anywhere on the plate operates one heavy-duty micro switch behind it.
  • Changeover contact: common and normally open close the circuit when pressed, while common and normally closed open it. Choose the pair your door circuit needs.

Where to use it

Hospitals, public buildings and colleges are typical high traffic sites for this range.

Treat it as an indoor product unless CDVI confirms an IP rating for your location.

DDA refers to the Disability Discrimination Act, whose duties now sit in the Equality Act. A suitable button helps, but door force, height and layout all count too.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Large plate: the whole face works the switch, so it can be pressed with a palm, an elbow or a closed hand.
  • Depth: check how far it projects from the wall on the unit, and that it clears a door swing or a passing wheelchair.
  • 130 mm square body: check there is a flat area of this size at the fixing point.

Installing it

  • Height and approach: fit it where a seated user can reach it easily, and keep the area in front clear.
  • Contact rating: check this with CDVI before wiring a lock directly, or take your release through the controller's input.

Planning your system

The button is one part of the door. The job also needs a lock, such as a maglock or a strike, plus a controller and a power supply.

An exit button is not an emergency release. An escape route usually also needs a separate emergency door release, so agree this with whoever holds the fire strategy.
