Yes. The front plate drops when pressed and stays dropped until reset with the reset key, and a reset key is included.

Can it be fitted outside?

No. It is for internal use, and it is rated IP24.

12/24Vdc. It draws 20mA on standby and 40mA in operation.

Can the light and sounder run intermittently?

Yes. It is adjustable for continuous or intermittent LED and sounder.

Is this enough on its own for a door on an escape route?

CDVI EM301-LS emergency door release, front view with reset key

CDVI Resettable Emergency Door Release, Triple Pole, Light and Sounder, 12/24Vdc EM301-LS

Overview

Doors with electronic locks open on a signal or when power is removed. People also need a simple way to free the door by hand if that signal never comes.

This CDVI unit does that job, and it also shows and sounds once it has been used. It suits access control installers fitting internal doors.

How it works

  • Drop plate: pressing the front lets the plate fall, and that movement operates the microswitch. A used unit therefore stays visibly different until someone resets it with the key.
  • Triple pole: a pole is one independent set of switch contacts. One press can therefore act on three separate circuits.
  • NO, NC and COM: these mean normally open, normally closed and common, the three terminals of a changeover contact.

Where to use it

IP24 means protection against finger-sized objects and splashing water. It is not a rating for open weather, which fits the maker's internal use limit.

Whether a door needs one, and which model, is for whoever holds the building's fire strategy to decide on an escape route.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 20mA and 40mA: this is the unit's own draw. Add the higher figure to the load on the supply when you size it.

Installing it

  • Position: fit it where it is easy to see and reach from the side people leave by, with no key, card or code needed.
  • Wiring: a common layout uses one set of contacts to break the lock's power and another to signal the controller. Follow the lock and controller instructions.
  • Supply: a regulated access control power supply is the usual way to power the light and sounder.
  • Testing: after fitting, press it, check the door releases and the sounder runs, then reset it and check the door locks again.

Planning your system

The door also needs its lock, such as a maglock, and a way to open it in normal use, such as an exit button.

CDVI offers the EM301-LS-KEY as a spare reset key, which is worth having where several people may need to reset the unit. Its optional EM301-LS-COVER protective cover prevents accidental activation.

Where no sounder is wanted, the EM301 is CDVI's version with light indication only.
