  • Tough face – IK10 impact rating

For installers

  • Power: 12-24Vdc (free voltage). In-rush 1.3A @ 12Vdc or 0.8A @ 24Vdc. Fail safe.
  • Mounting: flush, mortice mount, vertical mounting recommended. Weight 0.44kg.
  • Cabling: 1 x NO/NC relay. Contacts for push button, door position and bolt position.
  • Compatibility: the KDX200 stainless steel surface housing is the accessory for this lock.
  • Standards: IP42, IK10, -10°C to 60°C.

Frequently asked questions

Does it stay locked in a power cut?

No, not unless its supply keeps running, because it is fail safe. It stays locked through a mains cut only on a battery-backed supply, and on an escape route it must still release, usually through a fire alarm link and a release device. Check this with whoever holds the building's fire strategy.

What does monitored mean on this lock?

It means the lock signals both door position and bolt position through its contacts, so a controller can see the door's full status.

Can it be surface mounted?

Yes, with a housing. The lock itself is mortice mount, and the KDX200 is its stainless steel surface housing.

How long does it stay unlocked?

That is set by the relock timer, which adjusts from 3 to 30 sec.

Which way up should it be fitted?

Vertical mounting is what CDVI recommends.

Can it be used outside?

It is rated IP42 and -10°C to 60°C, so do not plan on it for an exposed door.

CDVI Fail Safe Solenoid Lock, Monitored, Flush Mount, 12-24Vdc DX200i

What this solenoid lock is for

A solenoid lock secures a door with a bolt moved by an electric coil, rather than a magnet holding the door shut. It sits out of sight, with only the plate showing.

This CDVI bolt suits access control doors where the system needs to know whether the door is closed and whether the bolt has thrown.

How it works

  • Fail safe: a fail safe lock releases when power stops. That is the opposite of a fail secure lock, which stays locked.
  • Roller bolt: the bolt is self-locking and rotates, which makes it harder to saw through.
  • Retry circuit: this tries again if the door is not correctly aligned, which saves a failed lock on a door that has dropped slightly.
  • Free voltage: you do not set a jumper for the supply, as the lock selects 12/24Vdc automatically.

Where to use it

IP42 protects against small objects and dripping water, so this lock belongs on indoor or sheltered doors. Its -10°C to 60°C range covers unheated lobbies.

On an escape route, settle how the door releases before fitting, and agree it with whoever holds the fire strategy.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 1.3A in-rush at 12Vdc: the lock draws this briefly as the bolt moves, so size the supply for it. At 24Vdc the in-rush drops to 0.8A.
  • 3 to 30 sec: short times suit busy doors with an exit button close by, while longer times help people carrying things.
  • 100,000 cycles: this is the number of operations CDVI tested, which gives a guide for a door's working life.

Installing it

  • Position: fit it vertically where you can, as CDVI recommends, and keep the lock and faceplate parallel for good bolt alignment.
  • Wiring: bring the push button, door position and bolt position contacts back to the controller inputs you plan to use.
  • Surface jobs: where a mortice is not possible, the optional KDX200 housing is CDVI's route.

Planning your system

A complete door needs a controller or keypad, an exit button and a power supply, as well as the lock itself.

A fail safe bolt on an escape route usually also needs a fire alarm link and an emergency door release, and any battery back-up should be planned with that in mind.

Ratings explained

  • IP42: the 4 covers solid objects larger than about a millimetre and the 2 covers dripping water at a slight angle.
  • IK10: the highest common impact rating, meaning the housing withstands a 20 joule blow.
