CDVI Green Dome Exit Button, Stainless Steel, Surface or Flush RTE-DSS

What this dome exit button is for

On a door with access control, people need a code or card to get in but should be able to walk out freely. An exit button on the inside gives them that.

This CDVI button uses a big green dome rather than a small rocker. It is easy to spot and easy to press.

How it works

  • NO, NC and COM: COM is the common terminal. NO (normally open) joins to it when pressed, and NC (normally closed) parts from it when pressed.
  • Which to use: in most installations, controllers take a request-to-exit signal on NO. A lock circuit that must lose power to release is usually wired through NC.

Where to use it

The traffic rating suits reception doors, corridors and busy staff entrances. The large target also helps people who find a small button awkward.

It stays indoors, because it is rated for internal environments only. For an outside gate or an exposed position, choose a weatherproof exit button instead.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 2A @ 24Vdc: this is the most the contacts should carry. If you switch a lock directly, check that lock's current draw is below it.
  • 29 mm surface depth: this is the depth for surface mounting. Check clearance around the dome on site.
  • 2 mm flush depth: this is the depth for flush fitting, so most of the body sits in the box.
  • -20°C to 55°C: this covers unheated indoor areas such as stores and plant rooms.

Installing it

  • Flush fitting: check your back box depth against the rear of the switch, and leave room for the cable.
  • Position: fit it where someone leaving will see it straight away, on the side of the door they naturally approach.
  • Testing: press the button with the lock powered, and check the door releases and locks again as expected.

Planning your system

An exit button is one part of a door. The job also needs a lock such as a magnetic lock, plus an access controller or keypad to run it.

On an escape route, a door held by a powered lock usually also needs a separate emergency door release. Agree this with whoever holds the fire strategy.
