Overview

Presenting a card to a reader is awkward with full hands, in a car or at a busy door. This CDVI card is read from a distance, so the user can keep it in a pocket.

It also carries a proximity tag, so one card holds two credential technologies.

How it works

• Active card: an active card has its own battery and transmits, here at 433.92 MHz. That is what gives the long reading range.
• Proximity tag: a second technology in the same card, read when the card is presented to a compatible proximity reader.
• Hands-free: the long range reader picks the card up as the user approaches, with no need to present it.

Where to use it

It suits office use. In most offices that means a hands-free main entrance, with the card carried in a pocket, bag or the adhesive card holder.

What the figures mean in practice

• Up to 15m: the maximum range with DTRR1434(R) readers. Walls, bodies and metal reduce it, so test at the door.
• CR2032: a common coin cell. The battery is changeable, so the card does not need replacing when it runs down.

Planning your system

The active part needs a DTRR1434(R) reader, such as the DTRR1434R. The proximity part needs a proximity reader of a matching technology, so check that reader's specification.
