About this product

The CDVI V4ER is a mortice magnetic lock for internal doors, usually fitted within a transom housing to lock swing doors. It runs on 12/24Vdc and holds up to 400kg. As a magnetic lock, it holds only while powered. Lock status monitoring is standard.

Key features

  • Strong hold on the door – up to 400kg holding force
  • Hidden in the frame – a mortice flush mount maglock, usually installed within a transom housing
  • Tells your system what the lock is doing – lock status monitoring as standard, through COM, NO and NC contacts
  • Works on either common supply – 12/24Vdc selectable
  • Neat and hard wearing – slim profile, in high grade stainless steel
  • Suits swing and sliding doors – usually used to lock swing doors, and also suits sliding doors

For installers

  • Power: 12/24Vdc selectable, drawing 550mA @12Vdc or 275mA @24Vdc.
  • Mounting: mortice flush mount, usually installed within a transom housing. Check its dimensions against the transom before ordering.
  • Cabling: lock status monitoring contacts are COM, NO and NC.
  • Compatibility: check the controller, power supply and housing against the job.
  • Standards: IP42.

Frequently asked questions

Does it stay locked in a power cut?

Only while its own power supply stays on, because a magnetic lock holds only while powered. It stays held through a mains cut only on a battery-backed supply, and on an escape route it must still release, usually through a fire alarm link and a release device. Check this with whoever holds the building's fire strategy.

Is it monitored?

Yes. Lock status monitoring comes as standard, through COM, NO and NC contacts.

How much current does it draw?

550mA @12Vdc or 275mA @24Vdc.

Can it be used outside?

It is not a good fit. It is an internal lock and it is rated IP42, which gives little protection against water.

Where does it fit?

Usually within a transom housing, the section above the door, to lock swing doors. It is a flush mount, so it sits recessed rather than on the surface.

Does it work on sliding doors?

Yes. It also suits sliding doors. Check how the armature plate will meet the lock before fixing it.

CDVI Internal Mortice Magnetic Lock, Monitored, Up to 400kg, 12/24Vdc V4ER

What this lock is for

A maglock keeps a door shut with an electromagnet and a steel armature plate, the flat plate the magnet pulls against. Most magnetic locks are bolted onto the surface of the frame.

This CDVI lock is different because it is recessed. It suits a job where a surface-mounted unit would look out of place, and where the door head has room for it.

How it works

  • The lock: power goes to the magnet and the door is held. Remove the power and the hold ends. In the trade, that behaviour is called fail safe.
  • The status signal: COM, NO and NC stand for common, normally open and normally closed. Your controller or alarm reads these contacts to see the lock status.

Where to use it

This is an internal flush lock, so plan on indoor doors in dry areas. Office doors, shop doors and internal lobby doors with a transom above are the kind of opening to think about.

If the door is on an escape route, the lock is only part of the job. Agree how it will release with whoever holds the fire strategy.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Holding force: this is the straight pull needed to part the plate from the magnet. It is an upper figure, and the frame still has to take the load.
  • Current: the magnet draws power all the time the door is locked. Add this load to anything else on the supply, and remember the current halves when you select the higher voltage.
  • Stainless steel: the material is high grade stainless steel. That does not make it an outdoor lock, which the rating below settles.

Installing it

  • Check the recess first: measure the transom or housing against the lock's dimensions before you order, because a recessed lock leaves little room to adjust later.
  • Select the voltage: the unit is selectable, so set it to match the supply before you power it up.
  • Alignment: the plate needs to sit flat against the magnet. A door that has dropped on its hinges can lose a lot of holding force.
  • Testing: with the door shut and the lock powered, confirm the status contacts change as you expect, then confirm the door releases when power is removed.

Planning your system

The lock does not decide when to open. You will also need a door controller or keypad to switch it, and a power supply sized for the load.

An exit button and an emergency door release are the usual additions on a controlled door. Check fit against your own door.

Ratings explained

  • IP42: the 4 means protection against solid objects over 1mm. The 2 means protection against dripping water when tilted, which is why a dry indoor position is the right home for it.
