CDVI Plastic Exit Button, Press to Exit, Surface or Flush, UK Format RTE-001S

What this exit button is for

On a door with access control, people need a code or card to get in but should be able to walk out freely. An exit button on the inside gives them that.

This CDVI model is the standard square format in its plastic range. For a narrow frame, there is the RTE-002S architrave version.

How it works

In most installations, pressing the rocker changes a switch contact, and that signal tells a controller or lock circuit to release the door. The door open time is usually set elsewhere.

Where to use it

It suits office doors, stores and staff areas, where the door opens a moderate number of times a day. Because it is for internal use, keep it away from unprotected outside positions.

On a very busy door, or where it may be knocked or abused, consider a metal button from the wider range of exit buttons.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 23 mm surface depth: this is how far the unit stands off the wall when surface mounted.
  • 5 mm flush depth: this is how far it stands proud when set into a box in the wall.

Installing it

  • Flush fitting: check the depth of your back box against the rear of the button, and leave room for the cable.
  • Position: fit it where someone leaving will see it straight away, on the side of the door they naturally approach.
  • Testing: press the button with the lock powered, and check the door releases and locks again as expected.

Planning your system

An exit button is one part of a door. The job also needs a door lock and an access controller or keypad to run it.

On an escape route, a door held by a powered lock usually also needs a separate emergency door release. Agree this with whoever holds the fire strategy.
