  • Live status monitoring – with NO/NC contacts
  • Runs on either common supply – 12/24Vdc
  • Shows its state at a glance – LED indication, blue for active voltage and green for open
  • Safer to fit – catch ropes prevent the magnetic lock from falling when side mounting
  • Fire tested – EN1634-1/2 (30 min)
  • Patented locking technology – a CDVI design

For installers

  • Power: 12/24Vdc. Consumption 480mA @ 12Vdc, 240mA @ 24Vdc.
  • Mounting: surface, internal. Maglock 266 x 66 x 40 mm, armature plate 185 x 60 x 12 mm, weight 2.86kg.
  • Cabling: NO/NC contacts, 1 relay.
  • Compatibility: takes the 500-ZL ZL bracket for 500kg maglock.
  • Compatibility: takes the DPM-500 door position monitor for 500kg surface maglock.
  • Standards: IP42, EN1634-1/2 (30 min). Temperature range -25°C to 70°C.

Frequently asked questions

Does it stay locked in a power cut?

Only while its supply stays on, because it is a fail safe lock. As a rule, it stays held through a mains cut only on battery back-up. On an escape route it usually still needs a release route, so check with whoever holds the fire strategy.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is an internal surface lock, and its rating is IP42.

Does it run on 12V or 24V?

It runs on either. It draws 480mA @ 12Vdc or 240mA @ 24Vdc.

What do the LEDs show?

Blue shows active voltage and green shows open.

Is it suitable for a fire door?

The lock carries EN1634-1/2 (30 min). As a rule, that covers the tested assembly, so check the door's own certificate before fitting anything to a fire door.

Is a bracket needed?

Only if the door and frame layout calls for one. The 500-ZL ZL bracket for 500kg maglock is for those jobs.

CDVI V5SR surface maglock, lock with armature plate

CDVI 500kg Maglock, Surface Monitored, Fail Safe, 12/24Vdc V5SR

Overview

A maglock is a magnet on the frame that pulls on a steel plate on the door. This CDVI model sits in the 500kg class of surface maglocks and adds a live report of whether the lock is doing its job.

It suits doors where the site wants live status monitoring as well as a lock. The V5SR-B is the audible feedback version, so choose that one if a buzzer is wanted.

How it works

  • Fail safe: this means the lock releases when power stops. The door is held only while the coil is powered.
  • Monitoring: the NO/NC contacts give a signal your controller can read. NO means normally open and NC means normally closed, so use whichever your input expects.
  • Indicator: the LEDs let someone check the lock from the floor, with no meter needed.

Where to use it

It is rated IP42 and for internal use, so it belongs on indoor doors in dry areas. The range of -25°C to 70°C covers unheated indoor spaces too.

On an escape route a fail safe lock normally goes with a fire alarm link and a manual emergency door release. Settle that with whoever holds the fire strategy before fitting.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Holding force: as a rule, this is measured as a straight pull with the plate flat on the magnet. A weak frame or poor alignment can give way long before the lock does.
  • Current draw: current @ 24Vdc is half that @ 12Vdc, and a maglock draws it all the time it is locked. Add it to your supply load.
  • 2.86kg: the frame head and fixings must carry this weight, which is why the catch ropes matter on a side fixing.

Installing it

  • Catch ropes: fit them as well as the main fixings. CDVI includes them to stop the lock falling and to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Back EMF: as a rule, a magnet coil can give a voltage spike at switch-off, so protect relay contacts as the controller's maker advises.
  • Bracket: a Z and L bracket usually suits a door opening inward or a narrow frame. The 500-ZL is the bracket for this lock, so check the layout first.

Planning your system

The job also needs a controller or switch, a DC power supply sized for the current above, and an exit button on the inside. Add the DPM-500 door position monitor if you want a more secure system.

Standards and ratings explained

  • IP42: IP ratings describe protection from objects and water. This level is for indoor use, not for rain.
  • EN1634-1/2: this is a fire resistance test for door and hardware assemblies. The figure here is 30 min.
