CDVI SEF2410-AVN Vandal Resistant Infrared Photocell, Fixed 10m Beam

Overview

Photocells are the safety eyes of an automatic gate or door. This model from CDVI's SEF24-AVN series adds a vandal resistant casing for sites where equipment gets knocked or tampered with.

The wider CDVI range covers access control and gate equipment around it.

How it works

A transmitter sends an infrared beam to a receiver across the opening. If the beam is cut or interrupted, an action is triggered and the photocell is activated, so the controller can stop or reverse the gate.

It works on infrared at 1.5 KHz, with an 880 nm wavelength from a GaAlAs emission diode.

Where to use it

It is made for the active zone of swing and sliding gates and doors, where a person or obstacle could be struck. The beams can also act as signalling devices for vehicles or pedestrians, or guard machinery that stops automatically.

With an IP55 rating, it suits an outdoor gate post.

What the figures mean in practice

• Fixed 10m beam: suits gateways up to that width; a wider opening needs a longer-range photocell.
• 1x NO, 1x NC: both contact types are there, so the safety input can be wired whichever way the controller expects.

Installing it

Surface mount the transmitter and receiver facing each other at the same height across the opening. As a rule, test the gate stops and reverses with the beam broken before handing over.

Keep the lenses clean and check alignment at each service visit. As a rule, a dirty or knocked photocell is a common cause of a gate that will not close.

Planning your system

Photocells work alongside gate automation and motors and the gate's own safety edges. Gate remote controls complete the user side.

Where the controller cannot supply 12-24Vac/dc, a separate access control power supply can power it. Other access control accessories cover exit buttons and brackets.
