What this monitor is for

A monitor is the indoor half of a video door entry system. It shows who is at the door and lets the person inside speak to them and open the door.

This CDVI model suits single homes and blocks of flats, and it is an upgrade of the former CDV-47DX. It sits with other indoor units in the door stations and monitors range.

How it works

• 2-wire, no polarity: the connection runs on two wires, and they can go either way round. That cuts wiring mistakes.
• App: the WiFi link lets a smartphone take calls and release locks. A steady home network at the monitor's position makes a real difference.
• Quad-view: this lets the monitor receive calls from up to 4 door stations, but an IP interface is required.

Where to use it

These are internal monitors, surface mounted, with a -10°C to 50°C temperature range. Do not plan on fitting it anywhere exposed to water.

The horizontal or vertical choice helps where wall space is narrow, or where it replaces an older unit of a different shape.

What the figures mean in practice

• 1024 x 600 pixels: this is the screen's resolution, the number of dots making up the image. Higher screen resolution is among the upgrades over the former model.
• 1.7W and 8.2W: standby is what it uses while idle, and working is what it uses in a call. Add both up across all the monitors when sizing the supply.
• 32GB: this is the SD card storage for saved pictures and video. The card is not supplied, so allow for one if residents want that storage.

Installing it

The cable type is 16AWG, Belden 8471. Wiring distance falls as monitors are added, from a max of 120m with 2 monitors to a max of 60m with 4.

Fit it with the screen at the 145 to 160cm mounting height. Think about who will use it, and whether a lower position suits them better.

Planning your system

The monitor is only one part of the job, and its supply must suit the 20-28Vdc power input.

A working system also needs a door station and a lock to release.
