Overview

A video door entry panel needs a steady low-voltage supply of its own. This DIN rail unit turns mains into a 33 VDC output for the panel.

It sits among the wider range of door entry and intercom systems, as a supply rather than a user-facing part. Nobody at the door sees it, but the panel relies on it.

How it works

• Continuous and inrush current: continuous current is what the unit gives in steady running. Inrush is the short surge a device draws at switch-on, and here that is 1.2A.
• Built-in protection: if the load draws too much or a cable shorts, the internal protection against overcurrent and short circuits is there to protect the unit.

What the figures mean in practice

• 500mA continuous: add up what the panel draws in normal running and keep it below this figure. Check the panel's documentation for its draw.
• 33 VDC output: check the device being powered is rated for this voltage before connecting it.
• Temperature and humidity: the operating range is -20 to 40 °C and 25 to 95% RH max, which suits most indoor enclosures and plant spaces.

Installing it

It mounts on a DIN rail and needs 4 DIN modules of space in the enclosure.

As a rule, isolate the mains before working on the input terminals, and have mains connections made by a competent person.
