The Comelit PAC 512 DC (909030055) is an intelligent two-door access controller supplied on a DIN mount for fitting into PAC 4-way and 6-way DIN enclosures.

It is built to sit inside a wider PAC access control system, where it handles on-site access control, lift control and door functions either on its own or alongside other PAC controllers. The board carries its own database and processing ability, so routine access decisions are executed locally rather than being referred back to a PC for every presentation of a card. Management software still does the heavy lifting for configuration and for the wider feature set: the controller is set up from a PC running PAC Access Central or EasiNet software.

Communication to that software runs over the built-in RS-232 port, while the RS-485 port is used to bring secondary PAC 511 and 512 controllers onto the same chain.

Who this is for

For the installer: this is the DIN-mount build of the PAC 512 DC, the serial two-door controller in the PAC range. It goes into a PAC 4-way or 6-way DIN cabinet rather than arriving boxed with its own 3 Amp supply.

Choose it when the enclosure, the power and the rail are already part of the panel design. The controller takes 12-24 V DC, gives you two 5 Amp lock relays and two 5 Amp auxiliary relays at 30 V DC, and protects the lock relays with a 3 Amp thermal fuse. Head-end communication is RS-232 to PAC Access Central or EasiNet; RS-485 is there to chain secondary PAC 511 and 512 controllers, using Cat 5 UTP or better.

Reader runs are 70 m from the controller when the reader draws its power from the board, or 500 m when the reader is powered locally.

In plain English: this is the box that actually decides whether a door opens. Cards or fobs are presented at readers, the controller checks them against a list it holds itself, and it then releases the lock.

One unit looks after two doors, and it will remember up to 20,000 people and the last 20,000 things that happened. It is not a stand-alone kit. It is a component of a PAC system, set up from a PC running PAC software.

It needs an enclosure, a power supply and readers around it to do anything.

Buying this in the UK

  • This is the DIN-mount version. If you want the same controller supplied boxed with a pre-wired 3 Amp power supply in a metal cabinet with lock and tamper switch, that is the boxed variant and a different order code.
  • The DIN mount is designed for the optional PAC 4-way and 6-way DIN cabinets, so budget for the cabinet and the power supply separately when you are pricing a job.
  • It is the serial controller: RS-232 to the software and RS-485 to further controllers. If the site needs the controller to sit directly on the network over TCP/IP, that is a different model in the 512 family and you should check the order code before you commit.
  • Readers, exit devices and credentials are ordered separately. The controller works with PAC LF, HF, MT, Architect and biometric readers and with PAC, KeyPAC, PAC OPS Lite and PAC OPS cards and tokens.
