What this audio handset is for

A handset is the part of a door entry system inside the home or office. A visitor calls from the entrance, the resident picks up, and the two can speak before anyone is let in.

This one is part of the GDX range and sits with the other intercom systems. It suits installers replacing or adding handsets, and building managers looking after a block.

How it works

• Duplex audio: duplex means both people can be heard in both directions, so a conversation feels like a normal phone call.
• Enter: the door release only works when a call is active, so the button does nothing between calls.
• Privacy: this is the do not disturb button. It suits anyone who does not want calls for a while.
• The top button: on this 2-button model the top button does not function, so it is worth telling residents.

Where to use it

The working range of 0ºC to +35ºC and the white ABS body point to an indoor position, in a hall or beside a door. Choose a spot that is easy to reach and out of direct sun.

Each button has a raised tactile symbol and an LED for indication, and the maker links its raised and tactile buttons to DDA compliance.

DDA refers to the Disability Discrimination Act, and whether a building meets its duties depends on more than one part.

Installing it

• Cable run: keep to the 50 m maximum from the Linecard and use standard 2-core 0.75 mm cable.
• Power: the Linecard provides it. Allow for the 0.2 Amp standby figure when working out the load across a block.
• Space: at 120 (w) x 216 (h) x 40 (d) mm it needs a clear stretch of wall.
