Comelit SK9050Y/A Standard Yellow Proximity Key Fob for SimpleKey Access Control

What this fob is for

A proximity fob replaces a door key on a controlled door. Each person carries their own, and the system decides who gets in, so a lost fob can be removed from the system without changing a lock.

This one is Comelit's electronic proximity badge in keyring form, in yellow. It belongs to a family of 10 colours made for Comelit's own access control and home systems.

How it works

In most proximity systems the fob carries an identity that the reader picks up when it is held close, without contact. The controller checks that identity against its list of allowed users and releases the door if it matches.

The SKR keypad combines a code keypad with an integrated reader that holds up to 500 badges, so a site can use codes, fobs or both.

Planning your system

• Match the system: keep to the Comelit systems the fob is made for. A proximity card reader from another range may use a different card technology.
• Use colours with care: a colour helps staff sort fobs by flat, site or group, but it gives no extra security. The system's own user records decide who is allowed through.
• Keep records: as a rule, note who holds which fob, and remove leavers promptly. The access control guide explains why every credential needs a process behind it.

Where it fits

Fobs like this suit blocks of flats, offices and shared entrances, where people come and go and access changes often. For a full door, the job also needs a reader or keypad, a controller, a lock and a power supply.
