Comelit SteelTouch Video Door Entry Panel, 5" Touch Display, ViP, Wall Mount IX8090S

Overview

This is the outdoor half of a video door entry system: the panel a visitor uses to find a name and call. It belongs to Comelit's SteelTouch range and is the ViP version, so it runs over an IP network.

This code is the wall mounted build, so its housing comes with it, already assembled and wired.

How it works

• Directory: visitors swipe through names in alphabetical order, as on a smartphone, or open the QWERTY keyboard with the magnifying glass icon and type part of a name.
• Direct call: for privacy, names can be replaced with flat numbers, dialled on the numeric keypad.
• Code entry: residents or visitors can be given their own numeric code, which unlocks the door or gate from the screen.
• RFID: radio frequency identification lets a fob or card open the door. The reader works with MIFARE Classic and Desfire credentials.
• Twilight sensor: it adjusts screen brightness and camera lighting to the light around it.

Where to use it

Its thick 316 stainless face and its IP65 and IK08 ratings make it suited to outdoor use at homes, apartment blocks and offices.

The microphone is purpose-built for outdoor use, which helps at a noisy entrance.

The video intercom guide explains why an exposed entrance also needs protection from driving rain.

What the figures mean in practice

• 160° x 90°: a wide horizontal view, so a caller standing to one side is still in shot.
• IEEE 802.3af: the original PoE standard, which PoE switches generally support. Check the switch's power budget for every panel and monitor on it.
• 155 x 374 x 83.5 mm: the size on the wall with the housing, so check the space beside the door before ordering.

Installing it

Run a network cable to the panel position for PoE, and plan the route before the housing goes up.

A Cat6 network cable is a common choice for a run like this.

Keep the microSD backup with the handover documents, so settings can be restored on site.

Planning your system

• Inside each home: a working system also needs indoor monitors made for ViP, and a PoE switch to power the panel.
• Access control: the Wiegand output can connect to an access control panel from Comelit PAC or a third-party system.
• The lock: a code or fob opens the door through whatever lock is fitted, so choose the lock and its release route together.
• Names: on the 5" version, names can currently be added or updated from a smartphone with the MyComelit app.

Standards and ratings explained

• IP65: dust tight and protected against water jets.
• IK08: a measure of resistance to impact on a scale that runs to IK10.
