CQR PADP2/SS/G1 double push panic button, front view with reset key

CQR PADP2/SS/G1 Double Push Panic Button, Latching, Key Reset, Grade 1

Overview

A panic button, also called a hold-up or PA button, lets someone raise an alarm at any time, whether or not the system is set. This CQR button needs both red buttons pressed together, which cuts down knocks and accidental presses.

Once pressed it latches, so whoever responds can see which button was used.

How it works

  • Reed switch: pressing the buttons changes a reed switch that is wired to the panel's PA zone.
  • Indicator: the indicator shows red after activation and yellow once the unit has been reset.

Where to use it

Place it where staff can reach it without drawing attention, such as under a counter or beside a desk. Environmental class II means an indoor location.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 50v DC, 500mA: the switch rating is well above the small signal currents of alarm zones, so it is suited to direct connection to a zone.
  • Grade 1: the lowest of the four intruder alarm grades, meant for low-risk premises. Higher-risk sites usually need a higher grade device.

Installing it

Undo the two cover screws, fix the backplate, and bring the cable in through the rear holes. Wire the PA zone to the two reed terminals; polarity does not matter.

Test it with the panel in engineer mode, then reset it with the key. Keep the key out of the button and store it carefully.

Planning your system

Decide with the customer whether a PA should be silent or audible, and who responds; that is set at the alarm panel, not the button. The guide to how intruder alarms work explains zones and signalling.

Run the button back in alarm cable. If the system needs a higher grade, the British standard for intruder alarms sets out what each grade asks for, and the wider range of panic alarms includes other grades and finishes.
