CQR Electronic Panic Button, Key Resettable, Stainless Steel, Surface or Flush EPA/STD/SS

Overview

A panic button gives people a fixed point to raise an alarm without reaching the keypad. In a reception, a treatment room or behind a counter, that can matter more than any other part of the system.

This one has a plain stainless steel plate. It is one of many options in the panic and personal alarms range, so compare styles if the room calls for something else.

How it works

  • Pressing it: The push action operates the alarm output, and the latching action holds that state.
  • Seeing it: The LED shows whoever arrives next that this is the button that was used.
  • Clearing it: The key returns it to normal, so a reset stays with whoever holds the key.

Where to use it

Environmental class II is generally taken to mean indoor use in a protected space. Fit it where staff can reach it easily and calmly, and where it is not knocked in everyday use.

What happens after the press, including any monitoring or police response, depends on how the alarm system is set up and not on this button alone. As a rule, agree that with whoever looks after the system.

Installing it

  • Surface or flush: Choose the fitting method before cabling, because it decides how the cable reaches the back of the plate.
  • Connections: Connect through the terminals, using the change over relay to suit the zone. Connect the tamper as the panel requires.
  • Testing: In most installations each button is pressed and reset during commissioning, with the receiving end warned first.

Planning your system

The button needs an alarm panel input to work with. The guide to burglar alarms explains how the parts fit together, and the wider burglar and intruder alarms range covers the rest of the job.

Decide who keeps the key and where the spare goes. A button nobody can reset is a problem on the day it is used.

Standards and ratings explained

EN50131-1 is the general requirement of the European intruder alarm standard, and EN50130-5 deals with environmental testing. The article on the British standard for intruder alarms explains the grades.

RFMS stands for removal from mounting surface. It means an attempt to take the unit off the wall can be signalled, along with the cover tamper.
