CQR FP3/RD fire alarm call point, angled view

CQR FP3 Fire Alarm Call Point, Key Resettable, Red FP3/RD

What this call point does

A manual call point lets anyone in a building raise the alarm by hand, without waiting for a detector to respond. This CQR model sits on a conventional circuit and is meant for internal positions.

A conventional fire alarm usually reports by zone. The panel tells you which area has operated and not which device, which is why a visible LED on the unit helps.

How it works

  • Frangible window: a frangible window is one that breaks when pressed. It gives the familiar break glass action and needs replacing after use.
  • Resettable window: this one operates when pressed but survives, and the key then returns the unit to normal. That suits sites where false operation is a nuisance.
  • End of line jumper: an end of line resistor lets the panel check the wiring is intact. The jumper chooses the value on the unit itself.

Where to use it

It is an internal device with an IP44 rating, so plan on indoor positions only.

Call points usually go at exits and on the routes people use to leave. Positions come from the system design and fire risk assessment, not from a product description.

What the figures mean in practice

  • IP44: the first digit of an IP rating relates to solid objects such as fingers, and the second to water. It does not change the fact that this is an internal device.
  • Voltage: the operating range is a direct current figure. Check it against your panel's circuit before connecting anything.
  • Temperature: the stated range covers ordinary heated rooms and also spaces that fall below freezing.

Planning your system

A complete job also needs a conventional fire alarm panel, detectors and sounders. Check the panel maker's end of line value before setting the jumper.

Fire alarm design is competent-person work. The guide to conventional and addressable systems explains how the parts fit together, and it covers the category question that comes first.

Keep the key with whoever is responsible for the system, and order spare glass if the frangible window will be in use.
