About this product

The CQR SC570/WH/G2/EN is a grade 2 door contact for windows and doors on domestic and commercial alarm circuits. It is a large surface mounted magnetic contact in white, suited to places where a standard contact is not big enough. It has 6 terminals and a separate tamper circuit.

Key features

  • Room for movement – makes within Min Close 36mm and opens by Max Open 65mm on the X axis, on non ferrous surfaces
  • Tamper on its own circuit – separate tamper circuit, with tamper connections on the terminal block
  • Spare terminals for tidy joins – 6 terminals, with two marked N/C, not connected (spare)
  • Optional wall tamper – detection of removal from its mounting surface, if required
  • Works on pairs of doors – suitable for double door applications
  • Long switch life – life expectancy >1,000,000 cycles, with a rhodium contact

For installers

  • Power: contact rating 500mA @ 12Vdc, contact resistance 100 milliOhms.
  • Mounting: contact 85 x 25 x 21 mm on 72mm centres, magnet 85 x 18 x 21 mm on 40 centres.
  • Cabling: two snap out cable entries at either end, plus holes for rear cable entry.
  • Compatibility: double pole or fully supervised wiring, with R1 and R2 to suit the control panel.
  • Standards: designed to meet EN50131-2-6:2008 Grade 2 and environmental class II, certified by Telefication.

Frequently asked questions

What grade is it?

Grade 2. It can be used in installations up to and including grade 2, and is certified to EN50131-2-6:2008.

What gap will it work across?

The circuit makes within Min Close 36mm on the X axis and Min Close 27mm on the Y axis. It opens by Max Open 65mm and Max Open 60mm. These are approximate figures on non ferrous surfaces, and mounting on a ferrous surface will reduce them.

Can it be fitted outside?

No. It is certified to environmental class II, which is for use indoors.

Does it have resistors built in?

No. In the fully supervised layout, R1 and R2 are fitted to suit the control panel.

Will it work on double doors?

Yes. It can be wired double pole or fully supervised on two doors.

What happens if the wall tamper screw is fitted and the contact is pulled off?

The circuit board breaks, and this is irreversible. The contact will need to be replaced.

CQR Grade 2 Door Contact, Large Surface, 6 Terminal, White SC570/WH/G2/EN

What this large contact is for

A smaller magnetic contact can start to cause false alarms when a door or window moves in its frame. This larger CQR contact is meant for those jobs, where the gap opens and closes more than a standard contact can handle.

It suits an installer replacing a troublesome contact, and an owner who wants fewer unexplained alarms. It still needs the door or window to close properly, because no contact can fix a badly hung door.

How it works

  • Magnet and switch: the circuit is normally closed and goes open when the magnet housing moves away from the contact housing.
  • Separate circuits: alarm and tamper have their own terminals, so the panel can tell a door opening from someone interfering with the wiring.
  • Spare terminals: the two marked N/C are not connected to anything inside, which gives you a place to join a cable.

Where to use it

It suits casement windows, factory windows, patio doors, residential doors, sash windows and wood awning windows. The maker's instructions mark the recommended fixing points for each.

Environmental class II means it belongs indoors, and the temperature range is -15° C to +40° C. Check that against any unheated space before fitting it.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Min Close and Max Open: the two parts must come within the close figure for the circuit to make, and the circuit opens by the open figure. On the X axis those are Min Close 36mm and Max Open 65mm.
  • Y axis: this is the other direction, with Min Close 27mm and Max Open 60mm. Use these smaller figures if the frame only allows that alignment.
  • Steel frames: a ferrous surface reduces all of these figures, depending on the material and thickness, so test on site.
  • 500mA @ 12Vdc: this is the contact rating. Treat it as a signalling contact, not a switch for a lock or a sounder.

Installing it

  • Lining up: the location tab on the contact housing points towards the magnet case, so use it to check the two parts face each other.
  • Cable entry: snap out a section at either end, or use the rear holes where the cable should stay hidden.
  • Wall tamper: this is optional, using the extra screw provided. It works by breaking the circuit board when the contact is forced off, so decide before fixing.
  • Magnet housing: take the cover off and fix it through the two screw holes.

Planning your system

You will need an alarm panel and alarm cable with enough cores for your layout. Double pole wiring uses separate alarm and tamper pairs, and fully supervised wiring puts R1 and R2 on one pair.

Resistor values depend on the panel, so take them from its manual. Double door layouts cover both wiring types.

Standards explained

  • EN50131: this is the European standard for intruder alarm systems. Grade 2 generally means low to medium risk premises.
  • EN50131-2-6:2008: this part of the standard covers opening contacts such as this one. Telefication is the certifying body.
