What this downlight does

This CQR fitting stays dark in normal use and lights from its own battery when the supply fails. It is a small recessed spot, so it suits ceilings where a bulkhead would look out of place.

An emergency downlight is one part of an emergency lighting system. It does not replace the design for the building.

How it works

• Non-maintained: the LED only operates during a power outage, while the mains keeps the battery charged.
• Foldable converter: the converter holds the electronics and sits on a flat lead behind the head. It folds, which helps it through the ceiling opening.
• Two lenses: the Corridor Lens has a long narrow beam, while the Open Area Lens spreads light more evenly.

Where to use it

Use it in dry, indoor ceilings where a mains supply is nearby. Choose the lens by the shape of the area.

Escape routes, stairs and exit doors have their own requirements. Follow the emergency lighting rules and your fire risk assessment.

What the figures mean in practice

• Lumens: lumens measure light output. The figure differs by lens, so check the spacing for the lens you fit.
• L80 50,000hrs: a rated life figure for the light output. It is not a promise about the battery.
• 6500K: a cool white colour of light.

Installing it

• Supply: connect it to the same local lighting circuit it backs up, so it responds if that circuit fails. Isolate before working.
• Spacing: Check the spacing for your lens and mounting height before fixing positions.

Testing and upkeep

This is not the self-test version, so plan on manual testing. That means removing power, waiting 3 hours and checking the fitting is still lit.
