Overview

A twin spot is a box with its own battery and two lamp heads on top. Emergency lighting of this kind is there to help people see their way out when the normal lighting fails.

CQR offers this output in black as well as in white. The black case suits darker walls and ceilings, and the white version is TS/4/NM/WH/865.

How it works

The fitting charges from the mains and discharges when called on, which is why there are two power figures. Lithium Ion LiFeP04 battery technology is used in all CQR emergency products.

• Non-maintained fittings: these only operate during a power outage.
• Maintained fittings: these remain permanently on.
• This code: check the classification label on the unit to confirm which mode it runs in.

What the figures mean in practice

• Lumens: this is the total light given out. It is not the same as the light level reaching the floor, which depends on mounting height and the room.
• L70: a rated life measure. It marks the point at which an LED is expected to have fallen to 70 per cent of its starting output.
• 6500K: this is a cool white, close to daylight in colour.

Installing it

Emergency lighting is normally fed from the same local circuit as the normal lighting it backs up, so that a local failure brings it on. Follow the design for the building and BS 5266-1.

Allow for the heads when checking the space, as they sit above the box.

Check the spacing for your mounting height before fixing positions. On a larger job, use a full lighting design.

Standards and ratings explained

IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets from any direction. It has no bearing on fire performance or the emergency duration.

On the label, a sticker with four squares gives the classification under EN 60598-2-22.
