About this product

The CQR AEM20003 is a Deedlock slimline double magnetic lock for medium traffic access control doors. It runs on 12/24V DC and is rated 600 lbf (272kgf) per single door. A magnetic lock holds only while powered. This version is unmonitored.

Key features

  • Firm hold on each door – nominal holding force 600 lbf (2660N) (272kgf) per single door
  • Slim on the frame – magnet size L500 x H50 x D27 mm
  • Copes with either common supply – 12/24V DC self-regulating
  • Tested to a trade standard – TS010 Grade 2
  • Door state easy to see – L shape indicator gives 180° visual indication
  • Tidy finish – satin anodised aluminium housing

For installers

  • Power: 12/24V DC self-regulating. Current 12v = 1000mA or 24v = 500mA, both +/-10%.
  • Mounting: magnet L500 x H50 x D27 mm, armature L180 x H38 x D13 mm, weight 4.5KG. Optional brackets are SLM/L, SLM/ZL and SLM/AH.
  • Cabling: this code is unmonitored, so it gives no lock status signal to your system.
  • Compatibility: check the current figures against your controller and power supply.
  • Standards: TS010 Grade 2, the Doors and Hardware Federations technical standard for electro-magnets.

Frequently asked questions

Does it stay locked in a power cut?

Only while its own power supply stays on, because a magnetic lock holds only while powered. It stays held through a mains cut only if a battery-backed supply is powering it, and on an escape route it must still release, usually through a fire alarm link and a release device. Check this with whoever holds the building's fire strategy.

Is it monitored?

No. AEM20003 is the unmonitored double. AEM20004 is the monitored double.

How much current does it draw?

1000mA at 12v or 500mA at 24v, both +/-10%.

What holding force does it have?

The nominal figure is 600 lbf (2660N) (272kgf), per single door.

Is a bracket needed?

Only where the door and frame need one. A bracket will typically reduce holding force by up to 70%, because the bracket can flex.

What is the old code for this lock?

AEM10003. AEM20003 is the new product code.

What this lock is for

A maglock holds a door with an electromagnet on the frame and a steel armature plate on the door. There is no bolt to throw, so the door simply stays shut while the magnet has power.

A double unit is normally chosen for a pair of doors meeting at one frame head. The long body takes the place of two separate locks.

How it works

  • Self-regulating supply: the lock works on either 12V or 24V DC. Do not assume any voltage beyond those two, or an AC supply.
  • Unmonitored: the lock has no status contact on this version. The indicator can still be read by eye, but your controller is not told whether the door is held.

Where to use it

CQR positions the slimline range for medium traffic doors, so busy offices and communal areas are the natural fit. Check that against how often your doors really open.

Where the door is on an escape route, the lock is only part of the job. Agree how it will release with whoever holds the fire strategy.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Per single door: the holding force is for one door, not a total for the unit. Plan around that figure when weighing up each leaf.
  • Three units of force: lbf, newtons and kgf all describe the same pull. Use whichever your specification asks for.
  • Current: the magnet draws power all the time the doors are locked. Add this load to anything else on the supply, including any lock on the same circuit.
  • Grade 2: CQR tests against the TS010 technical standard to check the holding force in a practical installation. A grade is not the same thing as a fire or escape approval.

Installing it

  • Check the frame: the frame head has to carry the pull as well as the lock, so check it is firm before fitting.
  • Weight: at this length and weight it is worth having a second person to hold the unit while it is fixed.
  • Alignment: each armature needs to sit flat against the magnet face. A door that has dropped on its hinges can lose a lot of holding force.
  • Testing: confirm both doors hold when powered and release when power is removed.

Planning your system

The job also needs a controller or keypad to switch the lock, a power supply sized for the load, and usually an exit button and an emergency door release.

Inward opening doors commonly need a bracket. CQR offers a Z&L bracket, an L bracket and an armature housing for the slimline range. Check how many a double unit takes before ordering.

CQR also offers AEM/STRAPS safety straps, which keep the magnet from falling off the door frame if it comes away from its mounting.
