About this product

The CQR AEM20002 is a Deedlock slimline monitored magnetic lock for a single door, with a nominal holding force of 600 lbf (272kgf). It runs on 12/24V DC. Like any magnetic lock it holds only while powered, so it is fail safe, and it suits medium use traffic applications.

Key features

  • Strong hold on the door – nominal holding force 600 lbf (2660N) (272kgf) per single door
  • Tells your system the door state – monitored version
  • Runs on either supply – 12/24V DC self-regulating
  • Easy to see the door state – L shape indicator with 180° visual indication
  • Tidy on the frame – slimline body, L250 X H50 X D27 in satin anodised aluminium
  • Graded to a door hardware standard – TS010 Grade 2

For installers

  • Power: 12/24V DC self-regulating. Current 12v = 500mA (+/-10%), 24v = 250mA (+/-10%).
  • Mounting: magnet L250 X H50 X D27, armature L180 X H38 X D13, weight 2.0KG (Single).
  • Compatibility: CQR offers the SLM/L L bracket, SLM/ZL Z&L bracket and SLM/AH armature housing for this slimline range.
  • Cabling: check the lock's wiring instructions for the terminals and the monitoring output rating.
  • Standards: TS010 Grade 2. Check the IP rating you need against the unit's documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Does it stay locked in a power cut?

Only while its own power supply stays on, because a magnetic lock holds only while powered. It stays held through a mains cut only if a battery-backed supply is powering it, and on an escape route it must still release, usually through a fire alarm link and a release device. Check this with whoever holds the building's fire strategy.

What does monitored mean?

It means the lock can report its state back to your system. This is the monitored single version in CQR's slimline range. Check the lock's wiring instructions for the monitoring output rating.

How much current does it draw?

12v = 500mA (+/-10%), or 24v = 250mA (+/-10%).

Is a bracket needed?

Only if the door and frame layout needs one. CQR offers the SLM/L and SLM/ZL brackets for this range, and a bracket can typically reduce holding force by up to 70%.

Can it be used outside?

Check the IP rating and outdoor suitability in the unit's documentation before planning on it for an exposed door.

CQR Deedlock Slimline Magnetic Lock, 600 lbf, Monitored, Single Door AEM20002

What this magnetic lock is for

A magnetic lock, or maglock, holds a door shut with an electromagnet on the frame and a steel plate on the door. There is no latch to wear or jam.

This slimline model suits inside doors on an access control system, where a compact body looks better than a full-size lock. The monitored version also lets the system know the door state.

How does a monitored maglock work?

  • Magnet: when powered, a coil in the lock body pulls the armature plate firmly against it. Cut the power and the door is free.
  • Monitoring: a monitored lock usually has a contact that changes state when the door is held, which goes back to a controller input. Check your unit's wiring instructions.
  • Self-regulating: this means the lock adapts itself to a 12 or 24V DC supply.
  • Indicator: the L shape light shows door status across 180°, which helps in a busy corridor or a hospital.

Where to use it

It is made for medium use traffic, which suits office doors, corridors and staff areas. For heavier use, look at a full-size lock in the wider range of maglocks.

On an escape route, settle how the lock will release before fitting it. That can change the wiring and the parts you need.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 600 lbf (272kgf) nominal: this is a nominal figure for the magnet. A bracket will typically reduce the holding force on the door by up to 70%, because a bracket can flex.
  • 500mA at 12v, 250mA at 24v: a magnetic lock draws current all the time it is locked, so add this to your supply load. Running at 24V halves the current.
  • 2.0KG: check the frame head can carry the lock and its fixings.

Installing it

  • Choosing a bracket: the SLM/L is the L bracket, the SLM/ZL is the Z&L bracket and the SLM/AH is the armature housing. The SLM/L/ARC and SLM/ZL/ARC are the architectural versions.
  • Safety straps: the AEM/STRAPS are made to stop the magnet falling if it ever comes away from its mounting. That is worth considering over a busy doorway.
  • Alignment: the plate must meet the magnet flat and square, because poor contact reduces holding force.
  • Protect the controller: a magnet coil can give a voltage spike when it switches off. Fit any suppression your controller's instructions call for.

Planning your system

A complete door needs a keypad or reader, a controller, an exit button and a 12/24V DC power supply sized for the lock's constant draw.

On an escape route, a magnetic lock usually also needs a fire alarm link and an emergency door release, and any battery back-up should be sized with that in mind. Agree the design with whoever holds the fire strategy.

Standards and ratings explained

  • TS010: this is the Doors and Hardware Federations technical standard for electro-magnets. This lock is rated Grade 2 to the 2019 edition.
  • IP rating: check the unit's documentation before using it outside or in wet positions.
