Overview

A beacon adds a flashing light to a fire alarm, so the warning is seen as well as heard. This Solex unit has a red lens and a deep red base, and is the 3Cd model in its range.

It suits conventional fire alarm systems, where devices are wired in zones rather than given individual addresses.

Where to use it

The deep base is rated IP65, so the beacon can go on a weatherproof wall position as well as an internal one. Choose the position so the flash can be seen from the areas it serves.

As a rule, a beacon supports the sounders rather than replacing them. It helps in noisy areas and where people may not hear an alarm.

What the figures mean in practice

• 3Cd: the light output in candela. A higher figure gives a brighter flash, so the right model depends on the size of the space.
• IP65: dust tight and protected against water jets from any direction.
• 93 mm: the beacon is 93 mm in each direction, so allow that much clear wall and depth at the chosen spot.

Installing it

Surface mount the base on the wall and bring the cable in through the M20 cable entry. Use a suitable M20 gland where the position is outside, to keep the IP65 rating.

Before connecting, check its operating voltage and current against the panel's output and the circuit's load.
