Overview

A sounder is the part of a fire alarm that people hear. This Eaton unit is the high output member of the Symphoni family, for jobs where a standard sounder would be drowned out.

Typical buyers are fire alarm installers working on factories, plant areas and yards. It is a loud device, so it suits those places better than offices.

How it works

• Conventional wiring: it sits on a conventional circuit rather than an addressable loop, so the panel treats it as part of a sounder circuit.
• Two stages: the alert and alarm functions let the system signal two different states.
• Tones: the installer selects the tone. Use only a tone certified for fire use on a fire system.

Where to use it

Think of open areas and high noise environments, indoors or out. IP66 means dust tight and protected against powerful water jets.

A sounder this loud can be uncomfortable close up, so avoid placing it near where people normally stand or work.

What the figures mean in practice

• dB(A): a measure of loudness weighted to match human hearing. Each extra 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.
• Up to: the top figure is a maximum, so do not plan coverage on it alone. Check the output per tone in the instructions.

Installing it

The cable enters through an M20 hole. Use a sealed gland, because a weatherproof rating depends on the entry being sealed.

Fire alarm work should be designed, installed and commissioned by a competent person. Check sound levels on site after commissioning.
