Overview

A manual call point lets a person raise the fire alarm by hand, without waiting for a detector to respond. This Eaton unit is from the CX range, in a weatherproof housing with a back box.

Call points are usually placed on escape routes and at exits, as part of a system designed for the building.

How it works

Someone presses the element in the front of the unit, and that operates the call point. It then signals the panel along the conventional circuit.

Where to use it

The weatherproof wall position is what sets this one apart. It suits places where an indoor unit would be exposed, such as a covered yard or a loading bay.

IP66 means dust tight and protected against powerful water jets. That is not the same as being immersed.

What the figures mean in practice

• 87 mm x 87 mm x 53 mm: the overall size, which is the footprint to allow for on the wall.
• ABS/FR: a plastic in which FR usually stands for flame retardant.
• Fire brigade alarm (red): Eaton's messaging type, which matches the red colour normally used for fire.

Installing it

Bring the cable in through the M20 hole. Use a suitable sealed gland, because a weatherproof rating depends on the entry being sealed.

Fire alarm work should be designed, installed and commissioned by a competent person. Test the point once it is connected.

Confirm the voltage and contact rating before wiring. Check that the panel suits the resistor values.
