Fike 402-0006 Twinflex manual call point, angled view

Fike Twinflex Manual Call Point, Resettable, with Cover 402-0006

What this call point does

A manual call point lets a person raise the fire alarm by hand, usually on the way out of a building.

This Fike unit is the resettable style, made for Twinflex systems. It belongs to one maker's system, so check the panel first.

How it works

  • Resettable element: a resettable call point usually has an element that moves when pressed, so there is no glass to sweep up after use.
  • Latching: after operation the unit holds its alarm state, so whoever attends can see which one was used.
  • End Of Line: end of line tells the panel where a zone finishes, so it can spot a break in the wiring. As a rule, only the last device on a zone needs it.

Where to use it

Positions come from the design for your commercial fire alarm system, and exit doors are the usual starting point.

Do not assume it suits wet or exposed positions without checking Fike's documentation for the IP rating. Check that the space stays within its temperature range.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Quiescent and active: quiescent is the current drawn while idle, and active is the current drawn in alarm. Add both to your zone calculations.
  • SLU and DLU: these are load figures used when adding up the devices on a zone. Check the total against the panel's own instructions.
  • Two depths: the depth falls from 52mm to 25mm when flush mounted, because more of the unit sits in the wall.

Installing it

  • Back box depth: a shallow box will not do here. Measure what is already in the wall before reusing it.
  • Screen: the E terminal carries the zone screen in and out, so continuity can be kept from one device to the next.
  • Set the switch early: the DIL switch is on the rear, so set it before the unit goes on the wall.

Planning your system

The call point needs a Twinflex control panel on the same zone wiring. Detection and alarm come from other Twinflex parts, such as the Multipoint devices and separate sounders.

Keep the reset key where the responsible person can reach it.

Standards explained

  • EN54 Part 11: the European standard for manual call points in fire detection and alarm systems.
  • Current approvals: if your specification needs a particular approval, confirm it is still current.
