Overview

A fire door holder keeps a fire door open in normal use and lets it close when the fire alarm sounds. It normally fixes to the wall behind the open door, but some doors open into a space with no convenient wall.

This Geofire bracket carries the holder out from the nearest wall or ceiling, on a swivel that turns to face the door.

Where to use it

Use it where a door swings into a corridor, lobby or opening with no wall in the right place.

Whether a fire door may be held open is usually set out in the building's fire risk assessment. Check it before fitting any holder.

Choosing the length

• Longer sizes: where the door stands further out, 300mm and 500mm versions give fitted distances of 450mm and 650mm.
• Measure first: as a rule, measure from the fixing surface to the open door's face before ordering.

Installing it

• Fixing: fix the mounting base to a solid wall or ceiling, then turn the swivel bracket to face the door.
• Holder: attach the door holder with the fixings supplied, then check the door meets the holder squarely.
• Test: once fitted, sound the fire alarm and check the door releases and closes fully.

Planning your system

The job also needs the door holder itself and, on most fire doors, a working door closer. Acoustic holders release when they hear the fire alarm sounders, so the building's sounders must be audible at the door.
