Setting the view

You choose how wide or how close the camera looks when it is installed, and you can change it afterwards from the recorder instead of going back up the ladder — the 2.8–12 mm lens is motorised, so the view is set at commissioning and adjusted remotely. Wide open, at 2.8 mm, it takes in 96.4° — about a whole forecourt; zoomed right in, at 12 mm, it narrows to 32.7°, tight enough for a gate or a till.

After dark

It keeps recording once the light goes, out to 40 m — that is the infrared range. Night pictures are black and white rather than colour, because this camera has no white light. If colour after dark matters to you, that is the first specification to check.

Mounting

The housing is the tougher anti-vandal type, meant to stand up to knocks and tampering, and the camera measures 128 × 100 × 128 mm. If you are mounting it on a surface and want the cabling hidden behind it, there is a matching deep base — the DBG4 in grey for the H512VDGA and the DBW4 in white for the H512VDWA. Order the one that matches the camera.

Connecting it

One network cable carries both the power and the picture, so there is no separate mains supply needed at the camera — Power over Ethernet to IEEE 802.3af, or 12 V DC if you would rather. It will record to an ESP recorder or to most other makes, because it is ONVIF compliant rather than tied to one manufacturer's system; ESP's own 24/7 NVR range runs to 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 channels. A microSD card of up to 128 GB goes in the camera itself, so it keeps its own copy independently of the recorder.
