About this product

Please note: this is a non-returnable item (excluding faulty goods)

The HID Global 20TKS-00-00003U is a Signo 20 contactless access control reader with terminal strip wiring, finished in black with a silver trim.

The Signo 20 is a narrow-format reader from HID's Signo line, sized for a door frame or the strip of wall beside a leaf rather than a broad flat surface. At 121.4mm tall, 45mm wide and 19.6mm deep it takes up very little of the frame, and at 75.1g it puts almost no load on the fixing. This is the terminal strip version, so the cable lands on screw terminals inside the reader, which suits a back box that already has the cable waiting in it.

Credentials are presented rather than swiped: the reader identifies contactless cards and fobs by RFID and also supports Bluetooth credentials over 2.4GHz. HID wires the same two terminals as Wiegand data or as RS-485 for OSDP, marked dependent upon reader configuration, and gives a 12V DC input. It can be surface mounted or mounted on the door itself, and it is stated as RoHS and WEEE compliant.

Key features

  • Signo 20 narrow format: The body measures 121.4mm x 45mm x 19.6mm, so it fits a door frame or a narrow reveal where a wider reader will not.
  • Terminal strip wiring: The cable terminates on screw terminals inside the reader.
  • Standard credential profile: The order code carries HID's Standard Profile, which reads Seos, iCLASS and MIFARE cards as well as 125 kHz HID, Indala and EM4102 proximity.
  • Bluetooth credentials: The reader also accepts 2.4GHz Bluetooth credentials as well as contactless cards.
  • Wiegand or OSDP: HID wires terminals 3 and 4 as Wiegand Data 1 and Data 0 or as RS-485 A and B, and marks that assignment dependent upon reader configuration.
  • 12V DC input: A 12V DC input is listed for this reader, which is the usual rail on a door controller.
  • Surface or door mount: It can be fixed to a wall surface or mounted on the door itself.
  • Environmental compliance: The product is stated as RoHS compliant and WEEE compliant.

Use cases

A narrow reader like this goes where a wall-switch sized one will not. Typical positions are the mullion of an aluminium shopfront, the frame beside a glazed office door, a lift landing, or a door leaf itself. It also fits the narrow return beside a fire door, where there is barely a hand's width of flat surface.

It suits the everyday commercial jobs: an office suite, a school block, a surgery, a warehouse office corridor, a plant room door. On those jobs each door needs a reader on the outside, and the controller sits back in a riser or a comms cupboard. The Wiegand output means it will drop into an existing controller that is already reading Wiegand from an older reader.

It is a common choice when a site is replacing tired readers a door at a time, rather than pulling the whole system out.

HID Signo 20 Access Control Reader, Terminal Strip, Black with Silver Trim

Who this is for

For the installer: this is the terminal strip Signo 20, so the cable lands on screw terminals inside the reader and there is no tail to fold back into a shallow box. It is 121.4mm by 45mm by 19.6mm and weighs 75.1g, which is why it goes on a mullion, a frame or a leaf rather than needing a flat run of wall.

A 12V DC input and a Wiegand host interface are listed, so on a retrofit you are landing the same conductors on the same controller terminals you already have. It can be surface mounted or door mounted. Mount it where a card or a phone can be presented flat to the face rather than waved past at an angle.

In plain English: this is the black panel you hold your pass against to open a door at work. It is the narrow version, made to fit on a door frame or on the door itself rather than needing a wide bit of wall.

It reads the common card and fob types in use on UK sites, HID proximity, iCLASS, Seos and MIFARE among them, and it can also read a credential held on a phone over Bluetooth. It does not open the door by itself — it tells the access control panel who has presented a card, and the panel releases the lock.

Buying this in the UK

  • This is the reader only. It needs an access control panel or door controller to connect to, plus a lock and a power supply.
  • HID wires the reader for Wiegand or for OSDP over RS-485 on the same two terminals, and marks that assignment dependent upon reader configuration. Check both before ordering.
  • This is the terminal strip version, so the cable lands on screw terminals inside the reader; check that against how the door is already cabled.
  • A 12V DC input is listed, which is the standard rail on most UK door controllers.
  • Finish is black with a silver trim.
  • The product is stated as RoHS compliant and WEEE compliant.

Questions we get asked

  • Will it work with my existing panel? HID wires the reader for Wiegand or for OSDP over RS-485, but marks that assignment dependent upon reader configuration. Confirm the reader build and your controller before ordering.
  • Can staff use their phones? Yes. HID's Standard credential profile takes a mobile ID over Bluetooth or NFC as well as Seos, iCLASS, MIFARE and 125 kHz proximity cards and fobs.
  • How big is it? 121.4mm tall, 45mm wide and 19.6mm deep, weighing 75.1g — narrow enough for a door frame or a shopfront mullion.
  • What powers it? A 12V DC input is listed, normally taken from the door controller.
