Who this is for

For the installer. 12 VDC at 18 W or plain 802.3at PoE — unlike the bigger domes in this range, this one runs from an ordinary PoE+ switch port, which is usually the deciding factor on a retrofit. The DS-1618ZJ wall bracket is in the box, so there is no separate bracket line to forget. One alarm input and one output only; if you need multiple contacts, look higher up the range. TVS 6000 V protection is fitted, but it only works if the earth is right.

For the end user. 15× zoom is the sensible middle of the PTZ range: enough to read a registration plate across a car park, without the cost and bulk of a long-range dome. The part that changes day-to-day life is AcuSense — the camera decides whether a moving thing is a person or a vehicle before it alerts you, so you stop getting notifications for cats, rain and moving shadows. In practice that is the difference between a system you watch and a system you mute.

If it is going on a commercial site, the ICO expects the recording to be justified, proportionate and signed. A zoom camera that can be driven onto a neighbour's garden is the classic complaint, so set the privacy masks at commissioning. On a domestic boundary the same principles apply and a neighbour dispute is far easier to prevent than to settle. Common questions

Can I run this from a normal PoE switch? Yes — it takes standard 802.3at (PoE+), or 12 VDC at up to 18 W. That is unusual in a PTZ and it is the main reason this model gets specified on retrofits.

How do I connect a PTZ camera to a recorder? Over the network to a Hikvision NVR or any ONVIF Profile S/G/T recorder. The PTZ controls come over the same cable — no separate RS-485 run is needed on this model.

What does AcuSense actually do? It runs human and vehicle classification on the camera, so line-crossing and intrusion alarms fire on people and vehicles and ignore most everything else. Fewer false alarms rather than more detections.

Does the bracket come with it? Yes, the DS-1618ZJ wall mount is listed as included on the datasheet. Pole, corner, pendant and gooseneck mounts are available separately.

How far will it see at night? Infrared reaches 100 m. Formal identification distance under EN 62676-4 is 132 m at full tele, which is the figure to quote on a specification.
