Hard Drive and Storage Planning

Eight hot-swap SATA bays taking up to 16 TB each — 128 TB fitted out — with full RAID support: 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10, plus N+M hot-spare. This is a recorder built to keep running through a disk failure rather than to be cheap.

Hot-swap is the point of the chassis. A failed disk comes out and a replacement goes in without powering the recorder down, so the system never stops recording to be repaired. Combined with RAID 5 or 6, a single disk failure becomes a maintenance job rather than an incident.

Thirty-two channels at 320 Mbps incoming writes about 3.46 TB a day, so a full 128 TB array covers roughly five weeks of continuous recording — before you set aside capacity for redundancy, which RAID 5 and 6 will cost you.

Trade tip, and check this before you order: this recorder has no built-in PoE. Unlike the 7700-series units, every camera needs power from a separate PoE switch or its own supply. That is a real line on the quote and it catches people out.

On power, the 50 W on the datasheet is the chassis with no disks fitted. Eight surveillance drives add substantially more.
