Overview

A wall bracket is the usual answer where a camera has no ceiling to hang from, or needs to look down from high on a building. A dome camera has a rounded cover over its lens.

This Hikvision bracket is bare stainless steel rather than a painted part, so there is no coat of paint to wear away.

Where to use it

Its anti-corrosion design makes it worth a look on exposed walls, where a bracket has to last as long as the camera it holds.

Where a site has a written corrosion requirement, such as a coastal or chemical location, check it against the camera and the fixings as well as the bracket. A chain of parts is only as durable as its weakest piece.

What the figures mean in practice

• 5 kg limit: add up the camera and anything mounted with it, and stay inside this figure.
• Over 3 times rule: the wall has to cope with more than 3 times the combined weight. A hollow or crumbling wall may need another approach.

Installing it

• Flat surface: the bracket should go on a flat wall, so sort out uneven render or cladding before you start.
• Sealing outdoors: waterproof rubber is necessary outside. Have it to hand when the camera goes on.
• Cable route: the cap is designed for convenient wiring. As a rule, decide where the cable comes through the wall before drilling.
• Fixings: as a rule, choose wall fixings to suit the wall material and the total load.

Choose the camera first, then confirm in its documentation that this bracket is the recommended one. In most installations the job also needs cable, wall fixings and somewhere tidy to make the joints.
