Hikvision Fingerprint and Card Reader Sub Module for Modular Door Stations, 13.56 MHz DS-KD-MFB

Overview

A modular door station is built from separate modules in one frame, so features can be added as needed. This Hikvision module adds fingerprint and card entry to the panel.

In most installations it serves a shared entrance, where people want to open the door without carrying a key.

How it works

• Fingerprint reader: enrolled fingerprints are stored in the module, up to 1000 of them.
• Card reader: it reads M1 and Desfire cards at 13.56 MHz. The card is held within about 2 cm of the reader.
• Sub module: it has no power of its own. The main module of the door station supplies 12 VDC and handles the call side.

Where to use it

It works from -30 ° C to 60 ° C and is rated IP65, which means dust tight and protected against water jets. That suits an outdoor entrance panel.

As a rule, a rain hood or canopy still helps keep fingers and the sensor dry in heavy weather.

What the figures mean in practice

• 1000 fingerprints: the most the module stores. If each person enrols two fingers, plan on half that number of people.
• 6000 cards: plenty of room for tenants, staff and spare cards.
• ≤ 4 W: a small load on the main module's supply, which matters when several sub modules share one panel.

Installing it

The module fits flush or surface door station frames and measures 100 mm × 100 mm × 35 mm. It connects over RS-485, and an 8 bit DIP switch sets it up on the bus.

Check the main module first: it must be an IP, 2-wire IP or 2-wire HD modular door station, and the DS-KD8003-IME2 (non-Y version) is excluded.

Planning your system

Start with a main module such as the DS-KD7003EY-IME2 2-wire HD door station, or the DS-KD8003-IME1(B)/Surface. Add a frame with a space for each module, then indoor stations and enrolment cards.
