Hikvision Fingerprint and Card Reader Sub Module, Stainless Steel, IP65 DS-KD-MFB/S

Overview

This Hikvision sub module adds fingerprint and card entry to a modular door station. It slots in beside the main module, so visitors still call while residents can use a finger or a smart card instead of ringing. It brings fingerprint entry, part of the wider biometric range, to the door station.

The face is stainless steel, and the module carries an IP65 rating for use at the entrance.

How it works

• Fingerprint: the reader matches a finger against up to 1000 stored fingerprints, so regular users need nothing to carry.
• Cards: it reads M1 and Desfire cards at 13.56 MHz from about 2 cm, and holds up to 6000 cards.
• Connection: it links to the main module over RS-485, with an 8-bit DIP switch, and draws 12 VDC from it.

Where to use it

It belongs on Hikvision IP, 2-wire IP and 2-wire HD modular door stations at flats, offices and shared entrances, such as the DS-KD7003EY-IME2 2-wire HD main module. Check the main module first: the non-Y DS-KD8003-IME2 is the exception.

It works from -30 °C to 60 °C and 10% to 90% humidity without condensation.

What the figures mean in practice

• 2 cm read range: cards are presented close to the module, which avoids reading cards by accident.
• ≤ 4 W: the load it adds to the door station's supply, worth including when sizing power.
