What this dual-channel PTZ camera is for

A normal PTZ camera misses everything outside the view it is zoomed in on. This Hikvision model tackles that with two channels, one fixed and wide, one moving and zoomed, so the wider scene stays in shot.

It suits roads, parks, squares and venues, where an operator or set routes follow activity and the overall picture still matters.

How does it work?

• Two channels: the 4 mm panoramic channel gives a 79° horizontal view. The PTZ channel runs from 5.9 to 188.8 mm.
• Tracking: options include panorama tracking, event tracking and auto-tracking, once set up.
• AcuSense: the name for deep learning that sorts what the camera sees into human and vehicle targets. Alarms can then be limited to those targets.
• 3D positioning: on a screen, click or draw around a spot and the camera moves and zooms to it.

Where to use it

It is an outdoor camera. The IP66 housing and the -30 °C to 65 °C range handle hard UK weather, and demist by heating the glass helps keep the view clear.

Keep it away from salt air and chemical plants, as those sites call for higher anti-corrosion levels. The IK10 rating excludes the glass window, so do not treat the window as impact-proof.

What the figures mean in practice

• 32× optical zoom: the PTZ view closes from 60.2° to a tight 2.3°. At full zoom you see detail, but only a small slice of the scene.
• 16× digital zoom: this enlarges the image in software and adds no real detail, so rely on the optical figure.
• 306.0 m to identify: DORI stands for detect, observe, recognise and identify, and this is a calculated figure at full zoom under EN 62676. Real results depend on light, weather and how steady the mount is.
• IR on each channel: on an unlit site the camera's own light sets the limit, so the wide channel's night view is much shorter than the zoomed one.
• 256 GB card: at the top 16384 kbps rate this is about a day and a half of constant recording. Treat it as a backup to a recorder.

Installing it

• Power: Hi-PoE needs a switch or injector rated for it, and standard PoE ports may not be enough. A 24 VAC supply is the other route.
• Weight and height: the camera is approx. 6 kg and 382.1 mm tall, so choose a solid fixing point. Movement shows up badly at full zoom.
• Accessories by code: the options also include the DS-1602ZJ-Pole vertical pole mount and DS-1602ZJ-Corner corner mount. Check that each code suits your surface.
• Set-up: configure it in a browser, or through iVMS-4200 or HikCentral.

Planning your system

Plan for a network video recorder, or a video management system such as HikCentral. Up to 20 live views can run at once.

Alarm events can trigger a preset, patrol or pattern scan, so the camera can turn towards a door when its contact opens, once wired and set up.
