What this Hikvision speed dome is for

This Hikvision speed dome covers ground that would take several fixed cameras, and can follow activity across it. One lens looks in one direction at a time, so it suits presets, tracking or someone at the controls.

It can suit a site manager watching a yard, car park or public space, and an installer who needs long reach from one mounting point. Hikvision gives rivers, roads, railways, airports, squares, parks and venues as examples.

How does it work?

• Pan, tilt and zoom: motors turn the camera and move the lens. It has a 5.9 mm to 188.8 mm focal length, so the view runs from 50.8° wide to 2.6° at full zoom.
• AcuSense: Hikvision's name for deep learning that sorts movement into human and vehicle targets. Perimeter alarms can then be limited to those targets.
• Auto-tracking: smart tracking covers manual tracking and auto-tracking, so the camera can be set to follow a target. It can only follow one view, so other areas go unwatched while it does.
• Audio visual alarm: events can trigger an audible warning and white light flashing, and can also start PTZ actions such as a preset or patrol scan.
• H.265+: a video compression method that needs less bandwidth and storage than older formats for a similar picture.

Where to use it

The -30 °C to 65 °C working range, IP66 and IK10 (excluding glass window) suit outdoor mounting. It also has a demist function and 6000V TVS lightning protection.

Reach is the point of a PTZ camera, so give it a high, clear position. Think about neighbours and public areas too, because 32× zoom can see well beyond your boundary.

What the figures mean in practice

• DORI distances: DORI stands for detect, observe, recognise and identify, here at full zoom. Hikvision works them out at 25, 63, 125 and 250 px/m, which is pixels per metre. Identify at 204.7 m applies only with the lens zoomed right in on that spot.
• Presets and patrols: a preset is a saved position. Pattern scans repeat a recorded movement, and this model has 4 of them.
• Power-off memory: the camera has this function, meaning it can return to its previous state after a power cut.
• 256 GB card: at the top 16384 kbps rate this works out at under two days of constant recording, so plan a recorder for anything longer.

Installing it

• Weight: at approx. 5 kg it needs a solid fixing. The supplied DS-1602ZJ wall mount is the starting point.
• Other mounts by code: Hikvision also offers options including DS-1604ZJ-BOX-POLE, DS-1660ZJ and DS-1662ZJ. The DS-1673ZJ should be used with DS-1661ZJ or DS-1662ZJ.
• Power planning: allow max. 42 W at 24 VAC, of which the heater and IR take a good share. Hi-PoE needs equipment rated for it, so a standard PoE port should not be assumed.
• Set-up: use IE11, Chrome 57+, Firefox 52+ or Safari 11+, or the iVMS-4200 client.

Planning your system

Add a network video recorder that shares one of the profiles below, plus hard drives sized for how many days you want to keep. Up to 20 live views can run at once and up to 32 user accounts can be set.

The two alarm inputs and one output can tie it to other site equipment. The built-in speaker has an effective distance of max. 30 metres for warnings.

Standards and ratings explained

• IP66: dust tight, and protected against powerful jets of water.
• IK10: an impact rating, which means resistance to knocks. Hikvision excludes the glass window from it.
• Profiles S, G and T: parts of the Open Network Video Interface standard. Profile S covers streaming, G covers on-device recording and T covers advanced video such as H.265.
• EN 50130-4: an immunity standard for alarm equipment, covering electrical interference.
