What this monitor does

An indoor station is the screen on the wall inside a home or office. When someone calls at the door station outside, you see them, speak to them and decide whether to let them in.

This Hikvision model is built for network-based intercoms, using a touch screen and one physical button for control. Hikvision calls it a video intercom indoor station.

How it works

• Network link: the station runs on your IP network, through its RJ-45 port or Wi-Fi. It uses SIP, a common standard for setting up calls, and RTSP, used for streaming video.
• Pairing with a door station: the SIP password of the indoor station should match the registration password of the door station. Devices on the same LAN appear in a list during setup.
• Alarm inputs: the 8-ch alarm inputs can take signals from wired sensors, and there are 2 alarm output pins. Door contacts are a typical input.

Where to use it

It suits any dry indoor wall where the household or staff would answer the door. The working range is -10 °C to 55°C with humidity of 10% to 90%.

Choose a position at a comfortable viewing height, out of direct sun and within reach of a network cable or good Wi-Fi.

What the figures mean in practice

• IEEE802.3af: this is the standard PoE type, where power comes down the network cable. A switch port meeting it means no separate supply at the screen.
• ≤ 7 W: use this figure when adding the station to the power budget of your switch.
• TF card: TF is another name for microSD. This one is limited to max to 32G and SD 2.0 or lower, so a larger or newer card may not be recognised.
• 12 V, 200 mA via detector: this is the power supply figure for a detector. Check the detector's own draw against it.

Installing it

• Before you start: make sure all related equipment is powered off during the installation.
• Fixing: the wall mounting plate is required. Fix the plate to the wall, then put the station on the plate's holder.
• First power-up: you must create a password to activate the station, then set language and network details.
• Security: keep the password somewhere safe, and put the intercom on a secured part of your network.

Planning your system

You also need a door station, a network, and either a PoE switch or a 12 VDC/1 A supply. To release a door you will need a lock on it too.
