About this product

The Hochiki YBO-BSB2(BLK)/RL is an addressable base sounder with an integral beacon, in a black case with red LEDs. It fits a standard or isolator base, and a sensor, beacon or remote indicator can be fitted on top. It gives 50 ~ 98 dB(A) at 1 metre and is for internal use only.

Key features

  • Sound and light in one device – addressable base sounder with integral beacon
  • Set the level to the room – 50 ~ 98 dB(A) (±2 dB(A)) at 1 metre
  • Keeps detection on the same point – takes an ESP range sensor, beacon or remote indicator on top
  • A tone for every site – 51 user-selectable tones, all EN54-3 compatible
  • Sound and light can run separately – independent sounder and beacon operation (panel dependent)
  • Suits dark ceilings – black PC ABS case with red LEDs behind a translucent PC lens

For installers

  • Power: loop powered, 17 ~ 41 VDC. Quiescent current 250 µA typical, sounding current 0.8 mA ~16 mA, plus 7 mA with the beacon active.
  • Mounting: Standard Base YBN-R/3 or Isolator Base YBN-R/3(SCI). Base fixing centres 48 ~ 74 mm. Ø 113 x H 43 mm, 124 g.
  • Compatibility: single loop address, set with the TCH-B200 Hand Held Programmer. Use addresses 1 to 127 only.
  • Standards: tones EN54-3 compatible. IP21, for internal use only.

Red LEDs. The (BLK) part of the code marks the black case.

Which base does it fit?

The Standard Base YBN-R/3 or the Isolator Base YBN-R/3(SCI).

Can a detector sit on top of it?

Yes. Any of the ESP range of sensors, beacons or remote indicators can be fitted to it.

Can it go outdoors?

No. It is rated IP21 and is for internal use only.

How is it addressed?

With the TCH-B200 Hand Held Programmer. Use addresses 1 to 127 only.

Can it be mounted on a wall?

Yes. Adding the SI/CAP2 cap turns it into a wall sounder beacon.

Hochiki YBO-BSB2(BLK)/RL addressable base sounder beacon, angled view

Hochiki Addressable Base Sounder Beacon, Black Case, Red LEDs YBO-BSB2(BLK)/RL

Overview

A base sounder beacon sits between the ceiling base and the detector, so one ceiling position gives detection, sound and a flashing light. This one runs on an addressable loop, where each device has its own address.

It belongs to the family of Hochiki sounders and draws its power from the loop, so it needs no separate supply cable.

How it works

  • Tones and volume: one of 51 user-selectable tones is chosen at set-up, and the output is variable from 50 to 98 dB(A). Using one tone across a building keeps the alarm signal clear.
  • Flash rate: the beacon flashes at 0.5 or 1Hz, where the panel supports the choice.
  • Auto-shutdown: a time limit can stop the sounder or beacon after a set period. Use it only where the fire strategy allows, and only if the panel supports it.

Where to use it

IP21 means it is for internal use only, in dry rooms. The black case suits dark ceilings and black fittings, where a white device would stand out. The guide to commercial fire alarm systems explains where visual alarms help.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 50 ~ 98 dB(A): a close-up figure. As a rule, sound falls with distance and through doors, so the system design decides levels room by room.
  • 0.8 mA ~16 mA plus 7 mA: the current rises with volume, and the beacon adds its own load. Count every device at its set level when checking the loop.
  • 17 ~ 41 VDC: keep the far end of the loop inside this range on long runs.

Installing it

Set the address first with the TCH-B200 hand held programmer, using addresses 1 to 127 only. Fit the Standard Base (YBN-R/3) or the isolator version to the ceiling, with fixing centres of 48 ~ 74 mm.

Where no detector goes on top, the SI/CAP2 cap closes it off and turns it into a wall sounder beacon.

Planning your system

  • Choosing devices: compare other formats in the fire alarm sounders and beacons range before fixing the layout.
  • Same maker: browse Hochiki fire equipment to keep detectors, call points and sounders on one protocol.
  • Panel: check that the panel supports separate control of the sounder and beacon before relying on it.
