About this product

The Hochiki HCP-E(SCI) is an analogue addressable manual call point with an integral short-circuit isolator, for fire alarm loops that use Hochiki's ESP protocol. It suits installers of ESP systems. It has a non-frangible element fitted as standard, which means no glass to break, and a bi-coloured LED that shows its state.

Key features

  • Helps a loop survive a fault – integral short-circuit isolator
  • Shows a short at a glance – the LED will show amber when a short-circuit is present
  • Clear when operated – the LED is continuously lit and shows red when the device is operated
  • No glass to clear up – non-frangible element fitted as standard (conforms to EN54)
  • Checks itself – a built in test function initiated by the control panel
  • Easy to test by hand – a test key in the underside of the unit
  • Certified for its job – LPCB Approved to EN54

For installers

  • Power: Operating Voltage 17–41 VDC. Quiescent Current 350 µA (max), 250 µA (typ). Alarm Current 10.0 mA (max), 5 mA (typ).
  • Mounting: flush onto any standard UK single switch/socket box having 60mm horizontal fixing centres and a recommended minimum depth of 25mm, or surface with the SR back box.
  • Cabling: two terminal blocks for the loop wiring. The loop cable diameter should not exceed 2.5mm 2.
  • Compatibility: Hochiki's ESP analogue addressable protocol only. Address it with the TCH-B200 and programming lead PL-3. Check the panel's own documentation for protocol support.
  • Standards: LPCB Approved to EN54. Ingress Protection Rating IP24, for indoor use only.

Frequently asked questions

Which protocol does it use?

Hochiki's ESP analogue addressable protocol. It is only compatible with the Enhanced Systems Protocol (ESP).

How is it addressed?

With a TCH-B200 Hand Held Programmer and PL-3 programming lead, with the loop not powered. Each device must have a unique address before operation.

Can it be surface mounted?

Yes, with the SR Back Box.

What does an amber LED mean?

A short-circuit is present. The LED switches to red if the unit is activated.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. These call points are for indoor use only, even though the rating is IP24.

How is it reset after activation?

With the supplied test key. Insert it at the bottom of the unit until the lower cover opens, then slide the cover back up until it clicks shut.

Hochiki HCP-E(SCI) addressable manual call point, angled view

Hochiki Addressable Manual Call Point with Short-Circuit Isolator, ESP, Red HCP-E(SCI)

What this call point does

A manual call point lets someone raise the alarm by hand. On an addressable system the panel knows which device was used, so this Hochiki unit points straight to its own location.

It suits new or existing loops that already use the ESP protocol. It will not suit a system on any other protocol.

How it works

  • Non-frangible element: non-frangible means it does not break. This removes glass from the job, and the same element can go back in after a test.
  • Short-circuit isolator: an isolator separates a shorted part of the loop so that devices elsewhere can keep working. The typical threshold here is 430 Ω.
  • Polling light: the pulsing or non-pulsing choice is controlled through the connected control panel, where the panel supports it. The factory default is flashing mode.
  • Glass option: an optional glass element exists for sites that want it, and the reset then includes replacing the glass.

Where to use it

It is for indoor positions. Call points usually sit on exit routes and at storey exits, and the system designer sets the exact positions.

On a flush fitting, it mounts over a standard UK single box. That makes for a neat result where cables can be buried in the wall.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Loop loading: use the quiescent and alarm current figures in your loop calculation, and take the max values for a safe margin.
  • Depth: the flush unit stands D 27.5 and the surface version D 59.5, in mm, so check the projection in narrow corridors.
  • Resistance in positive: this is the isolator's added resistance in the loop's positive line, which matters when working out long loops.

Installing it

  • Address first: the address can be set before or after connection, but only with the loop unpowered. A programming lead, the PL-3, joins the programmer to the unit.
  • Surface fitting: this uses the SR back box, which has a larger round hole for the loop cable.
  • Testing: the test key opens the lower cover and the element drops, which simulates operation. Check the panel shows the right address.

Planning your system

The job also needs a control panel that uses the ESP protocol, a programmer for addressing and, for surface work, the back box. Check the panel's own details.
