Hochiki Fire Alarm Power Supply, 5.25 A, EN54-4 HE-PSU(5.25A)

Overview

The HE-PSU(5.25A) is housed in a robust, key-lockable enclosure and is suitable for a wide range of uses. Its construction is fully enclosed and robust.

In most fire alarm systems a power supply of this kind feeds equipment that needs its own power, and standby batteries keep that equipment running when the mains fails.

How it works

  • Battery charging: the onboard microcontroller conditions all battery types with optimum, temperature compensated charging algorithms to maximise battery life.
  • Fault monitoring: status indicators show monitored faults, and the fault output is a normally energised volt free changeover relay.
  • Dual output: the dual output is for powering fire alarm control panels remotely.

Where to use it

The unit can be used in conjunction with the FIRElink range of air sampling detectors and Smart-Fix CHQ modules that require an auxiliary power supply. Its operating temperature range is -5 °C to +45 °C.

Check the temperature at the mounting position before fixing, as plant rooms and risers can run warm.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 5.25 A maximum load current: the most current the supply can deliver to its loads. Add up the standby and alarm currents of every connected device and keep the total below it.
  • 5 Amps from the batteries: the maximum current draw from batteries when the mains is off. Plan the battery size from the standby and alarm times in the system design.
  • Fault relay, 30 V dc 1 A: a normally energised volt free changeover relay. Use it to report a supply fault to a monitored input on the fire panel.

Installing it

  • Supply voltage link: set the link for 230 V ac or 110 V ac, 50/60 Hz, before the mains is connected.
  • Cable: fire-resistant cable is the usual choice for fire alarm power circuits, with a dedicated, labelled mains supply.

Planning your system

Plan the standby batteries, the cable routes and the panel connections together. Confirm the supply voltage each connected device needs before connecting it.

Standards and ratings explained

  • EN54-4: the standard for power supply equipment in fire detection and fire alarm systems.
  • Volt free changeover relay: a relay contact with no voltage of its own, so it can signal into another circuit.
