Hochiki IP66 Module Enclosure, Grey, Transparent Black Lid SMB-1

Overview

Hochiki's interface modules are often fitted where a standard module box will not do, because the cable is too heavy, the room is dusty or damp, or several modules need to sit together. The SMB-1 is a larger sealed box built for those jobs.

It is part of Hochiki's range of IP66 grey enclosures and holds the module electronics on an adaptor plate.

How it works

• Adaptor plate: the SMB-ADAPTOR plate fits inside the box, and the module circuit boards fix to it. A Smart-Fix module board goes on a CHQ-ADAPTOR first.
• Sealing: a polyurethane gasket seals the lid, and quick-release screws make it easy to open for testing.
• Clear lid: the transparent black lid lets an engineer see the modules' status lights without opening the box.

Where to use it

Keep the SMB-1 indoors. Its IP66 rating keeps out dust and water jets, so it suits dusty or damp indoor areas where a standard module box would not.

The box also stands up to a range of chemicals, from alkalis to fuels and oils, so spills nearby are less of a worry.

What the figures mean in practice

• IP66: dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. The rating holds only if every unused knock-out stays sealed and every cable enters through a suitable gland.
• -25oC to +40oC: the ambient range for the box. Check the module's own range too, as the narrower of the two applies.
• 32 knock-outs: enough for several modules' cables, with M32/40, M25/32 and M20 sizes.

Installing it

• Plate first: fit the mounting plate before anything else, as every layout uses it.
• Modules: fix each board to the adaptor with the screws matched to its type, and keep the split washers under the Smart-Fix screws.
• Cable entry: open only the knock-outs you need and fit glands to match. Fire-resistant cable is the usual choice for fire alarm circuits.

Planning your system

Order the SMB-ADAPTOR plate with the box, as it is sold separately. Typical contents are the CHQ-POM powered output module, the CHQ-SIM single input module and the CHQ-SOM single output module.
