About this product

The LigoWave DLB-5-15AC is a wireless bridge device for 5 GHz point-to-point or point-to-multipoint links. It suits installers linking buildings or cameras without trenching cable. It offers 500+ Mbps throughput, with a recommended distance of 7 km in PTP mode and 5 km in PTMP mode.

Key features

  • Capacity for demanding links – 500+ Mbps throughput using 802.11ac and iPoll
  • Point-to-point reach – recommended distance 7 km in PTP mode and 5 km in PTMP mode
  • Antenna built in – integrated dual-polarized directional panel antenna, 15 dBi gain
  • Made for outdoor mounting – IP-65 weather protection rating and an enclosure with no metal parts
  • Ready to power and mount – AC to 24 VDC adapter and pole mounting bracket included
  • Grows with older kit – backwards compatible with LigoDLB devices using iPoll mode

For installers

  • Power: 24 VDC passive PoE, not a standards-based PoE input. Adapter runs from 100 – 240 VAC, power consumption (max) 10 W.
  • Mounting: pole mounting bracket included. Dimensions 158 mm, 97 mm, 38 mm, weight 185 g.
  • Cabling: one 10/100/1000 Base-T RJ45 port, which also takes the 24V passive PoE.
  • Compatibility: backwards compatible with LigoDLB devices using iPoll mode. Check with the maker before mixing with other makes.
  • Standards: IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac, iPoll 3. Certification FCC/IC/CE.

Frequently asked questions

Is one unit enough for a wireless link?

No. A point-to-point link needs a device at each end, so plan on two for one link.

How far will it reach?

LigoWave's distance recommendation is 7 km in PTP mode and 5 km in PTMP mode. Treat those as recommendations, because a clear line of sight and local conditions affect the result.

Does it come with a power supply?

Yes. An AC to 24 VDC adapter is included in the package, and it runs from 100 – 240 VAC.

Can a PoE switch power it?

Only if that switch offers 24 VDC passive PoE. Do not assume a standard PoE switch port will power it.

Can it be mounted outdoors?

Yes. It has an IP-65 weather protection rating, a pole mounting bracket is included, and the operating temperature is -40°C (-40 F) ~ +65°C (+149 F).

Does the 500 Mbps figure apply to any setup?

No. It is the throughput figure for the device, and real links depend on channel size, signal and distance.

LigoWave DLB-5-15AC wireless bridge, rear and front views

LigoWave Wireless Bridge, 5 GHz 802.11ac, 15 dBi Antenna, 500+ Mbps DLB-5-15AC

Overview

A wireless bridge carries a network across a gap where cable is hard to run, such as between two buildings or to a camera pole.

This LigoWave device combines the radio and the panel antenna in one outdoor unit. Only a network cable runs to it, carrying both data and power.

Check the current firmware and features when planning a new job.

How it works

  • iPoll: LigoWave's own transmission protocol, which keeps performance smooth with many clients in noisy conditions.
  • MIMO 2x2: two data streams sent and received at once, which helps to raise capacity.
  • Directional antenna: the panel concentrates the signal into a narrow 35 degree beam, so the two ends have to be aimed at each other.

Where to use it

It suits fixed outdoor links, with one device at each end for point-to-point, or several clients pointing at one site for point-to-multipoint.

A clear line of sight matters more than the distance figure. Trees, buildings and even scaffolding can spoil a 5 GHz path.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Data rates: these are radio link rates at each modulation step. Usable network throughput is lower.
  • Channel size: wider channels carry more data but pick up more interference. Narrow channels often hold up better on long or noisy links.
  • Country dependent power: set the correct country in the device, as permitted power and channels differ by country.

Installing it

  • Network cable: use outdoor-rated Ethernet cable for the run to the unit, and keep the adapter indoors in the dry.
  • Aiming: fix the pole bracket first, then adjust each end for the strongest signal before tightening up.
  • Passive power: passive PoE sends voltage without any handshake, so never plug the powered lead into equipment that does not expect it.

Planning your system

Allow for a device at each end, a network switch at each site, and the cable between them. Walls need a separate mount, as the bracket included is for poles.

Work out the data your cameras or users need, then compare it with the link's real throughput rather than the headline figure.
