About this product

The Morley-IAS MI-DCMOE is an addressable output module for controlling auxiliary devices such as fire shutters or sounders from the fire alarm loop. It suits installers adding cause-and-effect outputs to a compatible analogue addressable system. It has one relay rated 30V DC, 2A resistive, and a built-in loop isolator.

Key features

  • Controls plant from the loop – one relay output for shutters, sounders and other auxiliary devices
  • Keeps the loop running on a short – built-in short circuit monitoring and isolators
  • Status at a glance – tri-colour LED, green when the relay is energised
  • Choose the wiring – supervised or non-supervised operation
  • Watches its own supply – supervised mode flags a supply below 7V
  • Two mounting options – M200E-SMB surface box or 35 mm DIN rail

For installers

  • Power: 15 to 32VDC from the loop (min 16.5VDC for LED operation); 160 µA maximum standby. External supply for supervised mode: max. 32V DC, min. 7V DC.
  • Cabling: plug in terminals for conductors up to 2.5 mm². For output supervision, fit the link across terminals 6 and 7; the load must be polarised.
  • Mounting: M200E-SMB surface box, 132 mm (H) x 137 mm (W) x 40 mm (D), or a 35 mm x 7.5 mm Top Hat DIN rail inside a panel or enclosure.
  • Compatibility: only for panels using compatible proprietary analogue addressable protocols. Check the panel's documentation before ordering.
  • Standards: EN54-17: 2005 and EN54-18: 2005; declaration of performance DOP-IOD080.

Frequently asked questions

What can the MI-DCMOE switch?

Auxiliary devices such as fire shutters or sounders. The relay contacts are rated 30V DC, 2A resistive load.

Can it switch mains voltage directly?

No. Its relay is rated 30V DC, 2A resistive, so larger or mains loads need a suitably rated interposing relay.

Does it have a short-circuit isolator?

Yes. It has short circuit monitoring and an isolator on the loop, which can be wired out on high current loaded loops.

How is the address set?

With rotary decade address switches, turned with a screwdriver. The number of usable addresses depends on the panel.

Which panels does it work with?

Panels using a compatible proprietary analogue addressable protocol. Check the panel's documentation before fitting.

Morley-IAS MI-DCMOE Addressable Single Output Module with Short-Circuit Isolator

Overview

An output module lets an addressable fire panel switch something else when a fire is detected. This Morley-IAS module has one relay output and sits on the loop at its own address.

It is part of a family of microprocessor controlled interface devices that monitor or control auxiliary equipment.

How it works

  • Relay output: the panel commands the relay to its energised state, and the LED can show continuous green while it is.
  • Supervised mode: with a polarised load and the link fitted, the module checks the output circuit and its external supply, and flags a fault if the supply falls below 7V.
  • Loop isolation: the built-in isolator separates a short on the loop so the rest keeps working.

Where to use it

Use it where the fire alarm has to operate shutters, sounder circuits or other equipment through a relay. Keep it in a dry indoor space or inside a panel or enclosure.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 30V DC, 2A resistive: the contacts suit low-voltage DC loads. For anything larger, have the module drive an interposing relay that is rated for the load.
  • Inductive loads: coils and motors can cause switching surges that damage the contacts, so fit a transient voltage suppressor such as 1N6284CA across the load.

Installing it

Disconnect loop power first, and handle the module as an electrostatic sensitive device. Set the address on the rotary switches before fitting.

On loops with high current loads such as sounders, the isolator can be wired out by taking the loop out positive to terminal 5 instead of terminal 2.

Planning your system

Cause and effect, loop loading and battery standby are part of the system design; the fire alarm system guide explains how they fit together. For mains loads, add a suitable control relay.

A supervised output needs an external supply, such as one of the fire alarm power supplies. Other fire panel modules cover inputs and combined inputs and outputs, and more Morley-IAS equipment completes the system.

Standards and ratings explained

  • EN54-17: the standard for short-circuit isolators in fire detection systems.
  • EN54-18: the standard for input and output devices, such as this module.
