Overview

A base sounder sits where a detector base would go, so the sounder shares the position and cabling of the detection point. That is the general idea, and it is why installers use them to add sound coverage to rooms that already need a detector.

How it works

• Addressable: The panel talks to each device by its own address, set here with rotary switches. The guide to conventional or addressable fire alarm systems explains why that matters.
• Isolator: As a rule, an isolator separates a section of loop if a short circuit happens, so the rest can keep working.
• Volume and tone: An advanced protocol allows control of audio output and tone selection. Whether a panel uses it is worth checking with the panel maker.

Where to use it

Choose the fitting by the environment. IP21C is a basic indoor rating, while the IP65 figure, with WRR, is the one to look at for wetter areas.

Sound levels and sounder positions come from the system design, so take them from whoever holds the fire strategy.

What the figures mean in practice

• Loop load: Low consumption is what lets more devices share one loop. Add up your standby and alarm loads against the panel's loop limits before settling on a device count.
• Temperature: The operating range is wide for an indoor device, though humidity must stay non-condensing.

• Panel: Confirm the protocol with the panel's maker before ordering if your panel is not in the NOTIFIER Italia Firefighting Series AM series.
• Detector: This is a detector base. Check which detector heads fit against the detector's own documentation.

Standards and ratings explained

EN 54-3 is the European standard for fire alarm sounders, and EN 54-17 covers short circuit isolators. CPR refers to the Construction Products Regulation, which is where the certificate number comes from.
