About this product

The Siemens FDFB291 is the base for the Siemens FDF241-9 flame detector, which plugs onto it. It suits installers wiring a flame detector into an FDnet/C-NET or collective detector line. The cables end in the base, and it fixes with four screws to a bracket, rain hood or stable, vibration-free surface.

Key features

  • Made for the FDF241-9 – the flame detector is mounted onto this base
  • Quick detector change – pluggable connection between flame detector and base
  • Fits several ways – on a bracket, ball and socket joint, rain hood or directly on a surface
  • Tool-light wiring – spring clip terminals
  • Flexible cable entry – break-out openings, M20 x 1.5 metal cable gland where needed

For installers

  • Mounting: four screws to the MV1 bracket, MWV1 ball and socket joint, DFZ1190 rain hood or directly on a stable, vibration-free surface. Use a secured ladder or work platform.
  • Cabling: break open the plastic parts for the cable entries you need. Use the M20 x 1.5 metal cable gland in damp and/or corrosive environments.
  • Compatibility: base for the FDF241-9 flame detector, on an FDnet/C-NET or collective detector line.
  • Wiring: note the positive and negative poles and only connect one wire per terminal. Wherever possible use twisted, unshielded cables.

Frequently asked questions

Which detector fits the FDFB291?

The Siemens FDF241-9 flame detector. It is mounted onto this base with a pluggable connection.

Does it need a cable gland?

Only if needed. Break open the plastic parts for cable entry, and screw in the M20 x 1.5 metal cable gland, which is needed in damp and/or corrosive environments.

Are shielded cables required?

Not usually. Twisted, unshielded cables are preferred, and shielded cables are only required in special cases such as strong high-frequency fields.

How is shielding connected if it is used?

The detector line shielding must be connected in the detector base with DBZ1190 auxiliary terminals.

What goes at the end of a collective line?

A control panel-specific end-of-line, connected to the end of the collective detector line.

Siemens Base for FDF241-9 Flame Detector, M20 Cable Entry FDFB291

Overview

Like most fire detectors, a flame detector is fitted in two parts. The base is fixed and wired first, and the detector head plugs onto it later.

This Siemens base is the fixed part for the FDF241-9. All of the line wiring ends here, and the detector joins it with a pluggable connection.

Where to use it

Wherever an FDF241-9 is installed, it needs this base, fixed on a bracket or directly on a stable, vibration-free surface.

In damp and/or corrosive environments, fit the M20 x 1.5 metal cable gland, because device function is impaired without it.

Installing it

  • Accessories first: if needed, fit the MV1 bracket for 45°, the MWV1 ball and socket joint for accurate aiming, or the DFZ1190 rain hood for outdoor applications.
  • Cable entry: break open only the openings you require, then fit glands as needed.
  • Terminals: use a screwdriver to remove the load from the spring clip, slide in the wire, and fit only one wire per terminal.
  • Line layout: on FDnet/C-NET, loops, stubs and T-branches are possible.
  • Indicators: wire-saving circuitry in external alarm indicators is prohibited for new sites.

Planning your system

Each flame detector needs one base, plus a bracket, joint or rain hood where the position calls for it. Fire-resistant cable is the usual choice for fire alarm circuits.

Flame detection normally forms one part of a fire alarm system that also covers smoke and heat. The commercial fire alarm guide explains how addressable and conventional systems differ.

As a rule, have a competent person design, install and commission changes to a fire alarm system.
