STI STI-15D20ML call point cover kit, front view, red shell

STI Euro Stopper Multi Kit, Surface Mount Call Point Cover with Sounder, 50mm Spacer STI-15D20ML

Overview

A break glass call point is easy to set off by accident or for a dare, and every false alarm disrupts the building. A hinged cover adds one deliberate step, and the noise draws attention at the moment it is lifted.

This version has a 50mm spacer, so it suits call points that sit on the wall surface rather than flush. For a flush call point, the STI-15020ML flush mount kit is the matching choice.

How it works

  • The cover: A clear polycarbonate cover and frame go over the call point, so it stays visible.
  • The alarm: The battery powered sounder is heard at the cover itself. The call point still has to be operated to raise the fire alarm.
  • The Glow Guide: This material sits in the frame and illuminates in the dark, making the call point easier to find in unlit areas.

Where to use it

It suits schools, colleges, hospitals, nursing homes, hotels and other public buildings with a history or a threat of false fire alarms. It is a retrofit, so it can be added where a problem has already shown up.

Before fitting anything over a device on an escape route, speak to whoever holds the building's fire strategy. In most buildings that is the responsible person.

Installing it

  • Choose the shell: Use red for a fire call point, and green for an emergency door release point.
  • Add the language label: There is space above the instructions to affix a second language, so the wording reads in two languages.
  • Break seal: A seal adds a visible sign that the cover has been lifted. One comes in the kit, and more are sold in packs as STI-BS Break Seals.
  • Servicing: The KIT-EA135 servicing pin is the maker's servicing accessory for this range, worth keeping with the maintenance kit.

Planning your system

Count the call points that really have a false alarm problem, rather than covering every point by default. As a rule, tell occupants about the new covers, and include them in routine fire alarm checks.

Other sizes and styles are in the call point covers range. The commercial fire alarm guide explains where covers fit in a wider system.
