STI Call Point Stopper Cover, Surface Mount, Blue, Emergency Text STI-6931-B

Overview

This STI cover goes over a call point or electrical switch to stop false activations from knocks and pranks. It is one of a family of call point covers, and the blue cap carries general emergency wording rather than the fire wording of the red version.

STI makes the same cover in other colours, such as a red STI-6931 for fire alarm call points, and a green version for emergency door release.

How it works

• Lift to use: the clear hinged cover lifts to give access to the device underneath.
• Self-closing: once let go, the cover springs back down, so it is not left open after use.
• Deterrent: lifting the cover takes a deliberate action, which deters casual misuse without restricting legitimate operation.

Where to use it

It suits shopping centres, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, nursing homes and other public buildings where devices risk malicious or accidental activation. Its blue cap reads 'In case of emergency lift cover - operate device', so the wording is general rather than fire-specific.

As a fire safety point, hinged covers are a common answer where accidental operation is a live risk, but any cover on an escape route needs agreement from whoever holds the fire strategy.

Installing it

The 35mm spacer, STI-6903, comes supplied and lets the cover sit over a surface-mounted device. The cover then retrofits over the existing device with four fixings.

Check the device fits inside the cover's 89mm x 91 mm inner opening before fixing.

What the figures mean in practice

• 142 x 106 x 66 mm: the space the surface version takes on the wall, spacer included.
• -40°C to 121°C: the typical working range of polycarbonate as a material, not a rating for the device it covers.
