Overview

This Capture model sits on the ceiling and looks down and around, which suits open rooms where a wall position would leave gaps. Ceiling models use omni-directional quad element PIR sensing for true 360° pickup.

Texecom builds these for professional work such as offices, retail and healthcare. It is listed as Grade 2, the level most UK homes and small commercial premises use.

How it works

• PIR: PIR stands for passive infrared. It reacts to the change when a warm body crosses its field of view, and the PIR sensors explained guide covers why that matters.
• Microwave: a microwave sensor sends out a low-power signal and watches for movement in the reflection. In general, dual technology detectors use it to confirm what the PIR sees.

Where to use it

In most installations a dual technology detector is chosen for rooms where a PIR alone could be troubled by heat, sunlight or air movement. Microwave can pass through thin partitions, so allow for movement behind them.

What the figures mean in practice

• 2.4m - 3.6m: the mounting height range. Check the ceiling height before ordering, especially on suspended ceilings.
• 9.3m / 360˚: the range and shape of the coverage. The entire pattern is independently certified to EN50131-2.
• Automatic sensitivity adjustment: the detector adjusts itself as conditions change, which helps it stay steady through the day.

Installing it
